what grains are you using? they look a little bacterial to me due to the grains pressed up against the glass, but i’ve only ever used oats as a grain
to everyone else: thx for the replies! i think i’ll just get a 100qt one for now, i use pint jars anyways so i don’t need height as much as i’d like a deeper workspace & to not fuckin bump the walls whenever i’m not 110% careful lol. the workspace is doable but kinda a bitch. it’s either that or building a flowhood, but idk if i wanna dump $500 into a diy project rn lol

Nah, they aren't bacterial. It's wheat berries baby! The finest. However i jst learned that myc won't grow on them if they covered in acorn squash goop.

That wheat don't look dry to me. Dry wheat looks like what's in the bag. Got me 2 bags of wheat and 1 milo today. Truck comes in friday so I'll have all the wheat!

Goop is bad indeed bad Ah yes, the milo. You taking bout them red BB sized deals? Them are the balls!
Hazyhorse - i aint trippin'. I been taking my vitamins. The reason i say like i knw is jst cuz im damn sure. I dried the fuck outta them, and i pc'd the fuck outta them, and i cut no corners with the inoculation.
And hells yeah get you some wheat. Really it's jst my preference. They all work, cept acorn squash. I keep touting egyptian wheat (Quirk calls it somalian wheat lol) but ive never run it by itself or mixed with white wheat like i want to. Only had it in WBS.

I just finished my last bag of rolled barley in the AA75X so I'll nocc them in the morning, got 8 bags with like 2.5kg/ea.
Talked to my dude about what I like and what's cost effective. Grabbed a bag of soybean hulls for oysters and apparently wheat bran is cheaper so I think wheat + wheat may be my go-to all around.
I now have 2 bags of Milo, yes the red BBs. They can swell up big time if ya force it, but I just ran likeb 60 jars of em kinda aldente and they colonized fine. G2G was quite quick and the a2g are comming along well.
I have wheat ready to go in bags for the morning then I'll prep the next round while that load runs. Get through noccing all that and I'll get the empty jars loaded with milo for more masters.
I do like my grain firm, but hydrated enough to colonize properly. Should be tender after the PC. Realistically there is a range of acceptable grain prep. Too dry and no dice, too moist and ya get a cake.
I called nothing somalian wheat to my recollection. My current bags of wheat are labeled for cover crop winter wheat was winter wheat. Not sure the difference entirely but i think this other stuff may be smaller.
I would take rye for bags after wheat because it hydrates so easy, very soft cereal.
I may be getting some proper whole barley to try. Might have had it once before but idk anymore. Figured it'd be easy enough and why not besides a few dollars.

I think it’s some sort of aspergillus.
I had an outbreak of that same stuff. Every time I harvested a couple days later the stumps and aborts would start getting covered in it. And it almost always started from the tops down so it was coming from the air.
With your jars it’s either a problem with inoculation technique or bad filter.

Hey quirckmeister I wanted to PM you to tell you not to use my recipe for no soak wheat I posted the other day but I'll just tell you here. That was my recipe that I always used for millet and milo but it's too dry on oats. Standby.

Yeah oats need a decent boil. Can you link the no soak milo? I can always add it to the Mush Cult grain guide Sand.

Hey buddy I'm not sure if you are talking about that super wide shallow 100qt but it sucks. It is to shallow if you ever want to try g2g, liquid innoculant, lc, it sucks to pour plates in, and loads of other things.

I've been struggling to find affordable agar recently until I found a supplier selling China grass powder for a fraction of the price. Not sure if it's branding related but I'm happy as it's 1/4 the price.
At one point I was going to start fiddling with this bag of starch jelly but it's not as translucent as I want.

What (if any) problems should I expect if I was a little heavy-handed while pouring LC into grain jars? Didn't feel like I poured that much but the jars look a bit wet. I poured some more reasonable jars last week and those colonized just fine so I'm pretty sure the LC is clean, at least.
Did some searching and didn't really come up with anything recent and conclusive, responses varied from "it's fine" to "you're fucked".

I don't think it will be an issue with the amount you use unless they're absolutely drenched, but myc can colonize that agar so it shouldn't really be a problem from my perspective. the more you use the same LC the higher chance it has to have become contaminated so it may have been clean last week when you used it, but during that pour you could have very well gotten some unwelcome guests in that otherwise clean LC. aside from that I know people that do LC prep their grains a bit more on the dry side just for future reference

Running a handful of PE & Ape tubs. Used a 2" top layer of coir per p9hu7's advice. I applied the thick coir layer a week after spawning. They aint doing shit cept colonizing the rest of the coir. Even had one pin a but on the sides but jst reverted back to vegetative growth. Bastards are overdue by almost two weeks now.
