My grow room is pretty clean but I have seen 3 fungus gnats this year. I haven't been cleaning between runs besides the occasional swiffer and vacuuming as needed.
Scared me when I saw them though, I figured it would get much worse.
bleaching your walls and shelves is pointless. the only thing that needs cleaned is your sterile work area, and I'd recommend isopropyl alcohol for that.

But if you DID want to do something like that, you could use a good size ozone generator and nuke the room heavily for an extended period of time. No cultures or pets or anything in the room for like a day or two kinda deal though. And it does make a residue.

Will it grow on it if I just soak some in warm water and let it sit out covered up for a while? Which is what I'm doing now.
Or would that infection occur only after the mycelium colonizes it?
Afaik, for the coir that gets the trichy treatment they add the actual mold, not spores I think.
Either way that's easily solved by making sure all the dry coir gets divided into little chunks and then throwing boiling water. Stir the mix a little (no need to be thorough, just to redistribute the water) and come back when it's cooled down. Mix well, use.

OK since that's what I've been doing no problem.

Peppermint oil is dumb but I guess go ahead if you want candy-cane smelling fruits. Again, look at the article I linked. They can smell a handful of shit being held inside a slaughterhouse. They don't care about peppermint. You can go join RR with his ACV bowl and smell all sorts of weird.
It doesn't do shit but move the problem around.
That penn state piece by actual ENTOMOLOGISTS has a lot of hard data that should be employed. Pregnant females prefer what they prefer and nothing at the end of the day will deter them.
I tried the peppermint oil bullshit awhile back and it's now on the shelf next to all the other worthless crap advice I've been given.

So i'm loving my AA75x. Wish I had got one sooner. Literally had to adjust the knob one time and it's staying perfect between 15-17 PSI. I can't wait to try bags with it, Just did my first batch of 15 quart jars (compared to 10 in presto) and it went so smoothly.
Now I just need a timer, and something to sit it on so I don't have to lug it to the stove. That shit is heavyyyyyy when it's full.

I skipped going to the AA website and found it on shroomsupply and they had a coupon to which was lit. Came in like a week compared to two months.
That mechanic slide thing is a great idea. Might just end up making a small cart out of some 2x4 and attach some wheels to it.
I needed to prep some more grain today but I ran out last night and the feed store is closed today

I spawned a few cakes to coir and they have colonized nicely, but it seems like the bulk sub was too dry at spawning. It feels super light. Is there anything I can do to water it in anticipation of a first flush? Pull the liner back and bottom water it?

I'm going out on a limb, cause I'm here and I know there's TCs in the thread. But ya? Haha. Looks just a hair green, compared to the other myc. And did you use LC? Did you shake it already? Cause some growth looks fine obviously, but some looks like it's having a hard time recovering, relatively. Another reason it's probably trich, or another mold even. And the last pic on the bottom left it looks kinds spotty.
Are these different jars? Now I'm wondering if that's even myc on the right in the *second pic

Before mixing the colonized grain/coir in the monotub, do you guys use alcohol to attempt to sanitize everything? I want to do the work in my kitchen, I don't want food spores to contaminate my monotub but I assume it's not too risky?
All advice appreciated.

Thanks! Also, I wanted to let my jars finish colonizing at the same time so inevitably some will be consolidating longer than others; is this okay (spawning consolidated grains)?
