An op in cult photos zaying he uses canola/rape seed in his shit and they claiming it gives mycelium a mega boner cuz of omega fatty assholes or something. Anyone knw anything about this, including the homie who is doing it? Sounds interesting enough for me to research.

There are actually tons of science articles that go into all kinds of oily seeds as additives for various mushroom crops so yea it's a thing
spawnmate etc being commercial products used in industry that are these kinds of seeds specially treated .

Star bones has been posting about that recently and with great results. Go look at cult pic of the day and see what he's got going on. He split 2qts between a bunch of blocks inside a big tub and got about 1000 wet per quart. Interesting stuff.

Yeah that's me talking about canola/rapeseed. I went back in time to a guy named agar here on the cult who was talking about fatty acids, had this turbo mushroom compost going on that worked like a hot damn.
So I asked my feed store guy if he could add canola to my mix and I posted some pictures of colonized jars and folks were on them saying they were FUCKED. They fruited absolutely beautifully though. Vegetable oils and shit have been used in a. bisporus farming to increase yield as mycelium can make use of the fatty acids. I figured it was worth a shot and it's been nothing but net since when using it in my grain.
It was these jars I showed that people were convinced were fucked.

My yields, speed and everything else have increased considerably I found in this hobby since using canola seed in my spawn. It's always, always the first spot that LC takes off on in my spawn bags and jars.
Take it or leave it that's up to ya'll but mycelium used omega fatty acids for growth and canola provides a good ratio of omega fatty acids. There's papers out there about it and yadda yadda I'm just a layman but in a. bisporus it stimulates mycelium and it seems to here as well. I swear between the oils in the coir and the canola something there really gives the mycelium some jam keeping the yields strong and contamination at bay. https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/00275514.1969.12018733?journalCode=umyc20
I've currently got colonizing unbottles that are in supplemented coir, it's Coir +_Verm + Gyp + Coconut oil. Just to see what it does with my Mak.

Was the growth in the jar any faster or slower?
My fastest finishing jars have actually mostly been no prep wbs. I’m assuming it’s from all the oils and stuff that usually get leeched out during the soak. The surface of the water always looks like a soapy oil spill after soaking overnight.

What’s your water/grain ratio for wbs no prep. And do you rinse it?

Faster, the LC seems to hit those canola seeds and jump off hard. Once it hits those a good shake and the jar finishes fast.
I really think it's been the reason for my greatly improved yields and such and I don't know if it's just luck but it really seems like my rate of contamination has plummeted. I know the acids in coir are what protects it from mold germination to an extent so I have to believe there's some magic from the canola oil too. I do get bacteria once in awhile but I can't remember the last time I saw a jar go moldy or a substrate go shitty before the 2nd flush. When I do WBS I use my presto, I fill it 3/4 with water and get it to a hell boil. Dump all the grains in, let the temperature come up and then take it off and let it soak. I upped my wheat in it because milo and shit doesn't really hold a ton of moisture.

I too am interested in your water grain ratio for no prep WBS.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about the fump wbs in a bucket, cover with a couple inches of water and let sit over night.
That's my go to method that I shamelessly stoke from mushboy. I don't bother rinsing, removing the sun flower or anything.

I love Teks that can be described in 1 sentence.
Personally I put ~3.84lbs of grain in a spawnbag and then top off to a total of 6lbs with water, shake, let sit 6-24 hours, shake again and pc.

No that’s regular wbs prep.
No prep is dry seeds and water into a jar and then pc.
It’s been a while but i think I was filling the quart up to the -400- line with wbs, and I know I used 90% of a half pint jar of water.
It takes some dialing in based on the wbs brand.
