If I'm learning anything from observing a lot of mutations/reverts/odd growths can be from bacteria stress

Aha. So stress from various factors is able to affect this particular tropism.

I have a shoebox that is putting off some caps that look like they are exploding/breaking down. Not affecting all fruits thank god but so far a couple weirdies like that. I thought the first one was a stump from a shitty cut then I remembered I hadnt taken any from this box yet. Anyone else had this issue?

You should try not not allow grains to sit exposed like that.

True, some people just mix and leave exposed grain without issues. I'm sure, sadly, that tut had bacterial issues before mixing with substrate. I'm a fan of a top layer of substrate at spawning which is completely different than a casing layer. I love a top layer for microclimate and better conditions in general. Not because I'm afraid of grain sitting on top. I also noticed your fruits are very wet. The black cap could possibly be an abort with how wet it is and the other cap laying against the side of probably having water sit on it for long periods of time. I've had caps get funky cause of drips and not bacteria. Are you still misting tut?

I agree, I often leave grain exposed without an issue. It's a vector and you are looking for answers, just something to consider.

if we flesh this out, I don't understand how colonized grain is vector for contamination?
I can understand exposed grain potential facing issues with drying out, but colonized is colonized correct? Not like its sterile uncolonized exposed grain

To be honest I can't argue the logic because I agree. It's like one of those things I just say because it's been drummed into me here for years. Hell I used to fruit straight wbs and had no issues.

this was my logic, the grain was fully colonized and i had shaken the jars a few days prior to spawning. I appreciate the feedback regardless. I've been curious about the FAE/humidity too. Im still pretty new so I'm getting a feel for what its like when it's going right vs wrong.
