I never get contams, granted I'm only growing bacillus, trichoderma, and penicillium.

Is there a big difference of workflow/efficiency with a 2x3 hood vs a 2x4? Ordering from China and it's much cheaper to get a 2x3 but I don't want to regret it.
2x3 seems plenty big enough but I've just never actually worked in front of a hood and don't know if that extra foot makes a big differences with a lot of bags and such.
I use a 30x30 and it is just big enough to work with one bag at a time to not crowd the hood.

You can only do one bag at a time anyway. I store my bags unsealed after pc on a shelf and grab one at a time and move into the hood. 30" height is sorta important because you have to lift stuff a little to not create backdrafts where it sits on the table. The work table is very turbulent, you wills see if you do a proper smoke test on your hood with the thick scientific smoke sticks.
Here is my rack setup

Here is how turbulent the work table is watch at this time stamp ..edit well the time stamp isnt working but at 30 seconds watch that part

I got tons of contams from not thinking and resting my wrist on the hole in the SAB and then also from playing music or podcasts on my phone and setting it on top of the SAB. You wouldn’t think the tiny vibrations from the phone speakers would do anything but they do.

I have my SAB on a table and I even make sure to lift jars vs sliding them making the table vibrate and in turn the SAB

Thanks for the helpful replies everybody. Gonna go with the 2x3, saves me a good bit on shipping compared to a 2x4.
@Sandman, I see, is there a reason you can't line up as many bags as will fit side by side and then inoculate one by one and then seal one by one? All of them slightly elevated on a rack in "first air" and then carefully pulled aside to seal?
That's a good video as well, thank you. I understand the basics of working with your "cleanest" items closest to the filter and keeping things elevated, but having never worked with bags either, I'm still a little fuzzy on how exactly I'll be doing everything--will probably watch how RR does it in his videos to get a better idea.
Regarding bags and sealing:
Is there any reason to go with the 0.5 micron filter patch instead of 0.2? I've read that you can't preseal the 0.2 bags before PCing but presealing isn't necessary since you can fold up the bags so that they kinda vacuum seal themselves during the PC cycle right?
Any reason not to go with a cheap hand impulse sealer instead of the magnetic sealers if you're only doing like 10 bags a week?

I must just be lucky, but then again I do very short sab sessions. I only do 10-15mins at a time. I might do several sessions in an evening tho

I am just about to post my findings on .5 bags, and how they lead me astray. Word on the street is a few uncolonized kernels on the top of your bags is no big deal. I have only used .5 bags and always had uncolonized kernels. I forget who but someone even gather up a bunch of the uncolonized kernels and fruited them... proving they are harmless.
I'm here to say... you can have too many uncolonized kernels, and a quick way of getting there is by using .5 bags.
Im now getting a completely white top surface on my wheat and millet bags and have nearly removed my contamination troubles by switching to .2 bags.
Also, modern .2 bags have excellent air flow... and do not cause any more popped bags than .5 bags.

I had a ton of the top grains not colonizing with the bigger bags so I started rolling the bag down so only about 1/4 of the filter was uncovered and that fixed it.
If you’re only doing a few bags you might not need a sealer, I’ve done a bunch of gourmets and grain spawn bags and never sealed one. Just clothespins.

I had some last .5 bags and I took your advice to roll them down a few weeks back... worked like a charm.
I pre-seal because I have no flowhood.

Took a hiatus to work on health. I'm pretty sure exposure to some molds from my outbreak last year has hurt me pretty badly, perhaps consumption of mold on some fruits I didn't spot as well. Got some genetics finally started on WBS again from the selection I was previously working on.
Averys that somehow now drop coloured spore, Two phenos of Melmak, three candidates of Rustywhyte and started working on my pans room. Will post updates as it goes.

Why didn't they colonize?

It happens sometimes in my bags too but it's not really a big deal, just scrape off the uncolonised top layer and it's good to spawn

Too much air dries them out.
I’m talking like a lot of grain. Not just a little top layer of bare grain like you see in jars.

Oh I see now. I make my own bags out of ziplocs and compressed polyfill ironed into squares (Read this from a tek here) and it works good! ofc i cant pc this so its useless for spawn run lol. Although for pans I dont wanna put them in bags then lay them in trays again I dont like the extra stress they have to go through.. I prefer trays from the get go. but yeah the heat of the myc dries the top surface easily

Do any of you lords run your flow hood before working? If you do how long do you do it for?
I kinda went straight into SAB mode when I got my hood but it seems like some of the scientific community does not.
