Haha, so simple. Doesn’t bother me, just annoying I thought I had more time. And there’s no way I’d spend the time washing them off......for what, taste? I haven’t found the spore load to make the feet taste any worse, just chow down!

yeah it is but they are all pretty similar, is it Penicillium? I don't want to successfully save one but knock something up in the air that fucks the others. would you do them all in separate sessions? not sure what is good practice here.

IMO, if all the plates looked similar to that one, I would toss them and start over again.

Yeah I typically would but I have an APE plate that would be the end of the culture if I toss it. I guess I'll try and save that and start again with the PESA and AA+ prints.

I harvested a couple 105qt tubs one night cuz they was about to sporulate. I set the fruits on a lid but forgot to fridge it. Nxt morning i noticed the whole harvest had sporeshit itself. I was so pissed. I thnk i tossed half.

Since it already started fruiting, will the surface bounce back if I mist and fan everyday this week? Weekends are nearly impossible for me to maintain them. Or should I tune the conditions to accommodate the weekends. Wondering if I should do anything about the bottom pins since they look like they’ll be chonkers . Should I flip the sub? Or just wait till it’s time to chop em down
If the mycelium is not dead, I'd mist and add a top layer of CVG and then give it a generous misting. It won't affect your current pins, the mycelium will most likely colonize the substrate somewhat for sure, to what extend I don't know but I have high hopes it can do it 100% if it's still alive.

Misting is to be done when the cake surface is drying out.
Fanning helps for FAE but your chamber should handle FAE automatically anyway, still do it to be sure if it gives peace of mind.
Yup, a soak for 12-24 hrs is good for your cake.

Soaking to long can make your cake to soft and mushy. I recommend doing 6-8 hours, that’s what I used to do for shoeboxes. You can also gauge how much moisture it has built up by lifting it and seeing how heavy it was before you soaked it and when you started the cake in the begging. Another one of those feel as you go type things. I’d give the cake at least a couple days before misting and keep a steady small flow of FAE to begin and gradually increase once you start seeing pins.

Anyone have an idea why a MS syringe would germinate on a BRF cake, but not on agar? Not getting any contam on the plates, just total refusal to germinate.

How many plates did you inoculate with the syringe?
I had many do nothing when I first started from spore syringe. I made 10 if I remember correctly and had 5-6 actually germinate.
It can also take awhile to see germination from an MS syringe.
As to why it would on BRF but not on agar, I cannot say for sure.
If you need a print, feel free to PM me your address.

Hey it's my 3000th post.
Congratulations! This is a funny thread and I've also wondered about spore pollution. But really, eating a cap is ingesting way more spores.
Anyway I've got few pecadillos myself, just ask my wife!

The APE plate definitely looks more manageable than the first plate. I say, go for it.

why did you decide to flip it? I love your non-standard methods for everything What lid do you have on it? you may not need to fan at all if there is decent FAE.

Should I mist this shoebox or something? The other side has some little knots forming, but the other side is shrinking in, still bits of uncolonized coir splotched around.
