I know first flushes tend to be small, but this got me a bit confused. Was it maybe the 1:4 spawn ratio?
Nah he's right. You probably coulda let them go another day or two before they'd have been fully open. Gotten a bit more out of them. If they spore dump it's nbd, wash'em off if you don't like it.

Going to try bags today. It’s not clear to me how to seal them though. I do have an impulse sealer. Once they are packed, fold them top over a number of times and then PC and then pull them out and immediately seal the top? Is the tyvek sleeve essential or can it be done without? I don’t think I can preseal these because the filter is 0.2micron:

Wha ha happened was, I went the whole weekend without misting and the gap in the lid was too big so the surface dried out. Since it already started fruiting, will the surface bounce back if I mist and fan everyday this week? Weekends are nearly impossible for me to maintain them. Or should I tune the conditions to accommodate the weekends. Wondering if I should do anything about the bottom pins since they look like they’ll be chonkers . Should I flip the sub? Or just wait till it’s time to chop em down

Don't flip it, since it's pinning/about to fruit. For the next run (if there's a next run... just yanking your chain man ) definitely do a top layer of coir, it'll help with not drying out. But anywho, for now, give it a heavy mist today to elevate the hydration, then inspect+mist normally the next few days. I'd do a heavy mist before walking away for the weekend

Sorry to spam the thread with this PE casing stuff but I've just prepped my casing per Faht's directions but my pH meter is showing the stuff to be way above 8 even after a couple readings where I kept adding more peat to bring the pH down.
I'm not sure how reliable the meter is past 8 so I'm not sure how you're supposed to shoot for 8.5 but I've added like 2 more quarts of straight peat to bring the pH down and the dial hasn't moved at all. What gives?

If you don't like mushrooms that drop spores, there are plenty of cube varieties that do not drop spores. Problem solved.

all these pH meters suck. That being said I had one of these and cleaned the probe with a wire brush (or some sand paper or some steel wool) and it works 1000 times better. Clean the probes and leave it in the material you are testing for a few minutes, it won't be an instant reading.
Before I cleaned the probes I would put the probes into pH down and it wouldn't go below 7, after it goes all the way to the other side. That's how I tested it at least.

That sucks, is there a better way to test pH? Want to be sure what I'm working with.
The meter did eventually read a solid 8 for my casing so I'm pasteurizing it now but I also stuck it in my peat for 10 minutes and it said like 6.5-7 so I don't really trust it lol.
My probe's brand new, do you think cleaning it with something abrasive made yours more sensitive? Seems like it would fuck things up but I don't know shit about these things.

Yeah my probes were new also (I got 2 of them). Cleaning it makes them work and I'm not 100% sure why.
There's a way to make a slurry with distilled water I believe and then you test that (I've never done it, just read about it) and that seems to be the most accurate using a liquid pH meter.
Try cleaning the probe(s) and see if that helps.

I have multiple contaminated dishes I need to clean up and transfer away from, is doing all the work in one SAB session the wrong thing to do? Would you restart before each one? I'm not sure of the risk of the bacteria becoming airborne, I have clean myc far enough from the visible contamination in each case so that I don't need to touch it.
