What I like about mushroom growing is that it rehabilitates. You can have a person coming from a bad place, and the process of print agar fruits will improve the person. I don't even count the psychedelic experience into this.
Imagine only coming from dependingness and unemployment, to rise to fruits.

Yeah it’s not really noticeable at first and then it drives me nuts. I like to track the title change to there source and then ban the perp with something that won’t get easily noticed...like a site wide 728 day ban. It’s not a perma so no one cares
Seems like it's usually noobs trying to fill out all the boxes... I was tempted to change it to something funny, when peeps were freaking out... I did change my thread though, kinda like a barometer of how it's going. Like right now it sucks, APE must be another level of difficulty.

Tried this out and I'm very happy with the results. Had to share with someone

Can anyone tell me how coir became the standard for cube growing?
It doesn't seem to be commonly used with other species, from what I can tell people used to use manure/straw commonly. So how did the leap to using a non-nutritious substrate with a high spawn ratio come about?

I could be wrong, but for a home grower, sterilizing a small amount of grain and just hydrating coir seems easier than sterilizing grain aaaaand pasteurizing substrate.

Oh no doubt, I was just wondering how it came about. I was reading a thread where an old grower was trying to get his head around spawning grains to coir, and I started wondering when and how it occurred. Seems like a big change compared to trays in a full FC

Changing the thread title is a noob rite of passage.
I was curious about coir too, it’s gotta be used for some sort of plants and somebody realized it held water and stayed fluffy. Cuz I’d never heard of it before cult.

Nah,me neither, Its seems like more of a leap then just water retention tho. If you were using manure and straw you'd use way less spawn or just straight LC. It seems like switching to coir also included a change of mush cult practice, in that much higher amounts of spawn are required.

People are blaming coir, when their spawn is bad. Coir lies around, hydrated, in bags for weeks before used to spawn, sometimes, and people still getting huge flushes and late mold.

does using straw and hpoo really change the yield per quart?

I'm not asking about contams, just the history of how cult practise evolved. I'm not looking to grow cubes on anything but coir. It works and it's pretty idiot proof.
@camera i have no idea, the thread that started me on this enquiry was one blue helix posted and he stated 80% BE being a good yield on hpoo/straw. When most people talk about coir its nearly always 100 - 200% BE

These days I usually spawn to coir at 1:4

Ya but your also considered at top cultivator. Who i assume generally runs tested clones?
I tried using 2 quarts to a 650g brick on a couple of ms grows and it didn't quite work the way I wanted it to. 3 yielded promising results tho so now I yoyo between 3&4.

I think using manure has to up the yield. Guys in the pans thread are pulling canopy grows with no spawn at all, just lc to manure.

from what I understand manure is better for myc but it's a little bit more fiddly and expensive if you don't have a source around you. Getting cheap coir is easy and simple to store, while hpoo is a bit more difficult to get and store.
