The harvest weight isn’t relative to fruit size. I’ve had PF classics that were insanely dense. Like four times the weight of usual shrooms that size. If I could get a tub packed with them I could probably pull 2000 wet first flush from a shoebox.
These are some of the smaller classics, they each weighed 25-35g

Then this one

By far the densest fruits I’ve ever had.
I couldn't see any Bacteria. Are you sure?

Whats the farthest yall will take a g2g expansion? I've always made master jars and each master goes to 10 g2g. Anyone ever expanded those 10 g2g jars to 10 more each? If so, do you notice any difference in the vigor of your culture on the grains after two expansions?
I have a few really good looking g2g jars of a clone I like and I'd love to make about 40 more jars with them but I've never taken it out farther than the first g2g transfer

Am I spawning too early? I have been spawning two weeks after I shake my jars. The jars usually look more or less like the picture above. (Those are Purple Mystic two weeks after the shake and I spawned them to shoeboxes yesterday).
On my next set of jars, I'm going to let the recovery go three weeks and let the myc get thicker. Will this make a difference in the final fruit or the time it takes the culture to fruit?
Have your tubs been contaminating? If not, keep doing what you're doing. The majority of those grain are probably colonized even if you can't see it. Personally, I like my jars to get white all the way through. I usually end up with a couple of pieces of grain that doesn't look colonized (possibly bacterial). No sense in getting that far and ruining your grow. Rather be safe than sorry.

Yep, I'll make a master and go to 10 and 1 of those to 10 more and keep it going for awhile. I haven't noticed a loss of vigor or anything. The myc still runs through my grains like it was day 1. I feel like by the time that happens I'll be onto a new strain or moved to clones by then. I'm probably on jar 100 from my master on my PE.

Has anybody even ran into senescence? I imagine it would take a really long time and a shit ton of myc exchanges to be a real problem.

I've gone G2G 7 times with culture but that last set of 10 weren't great. My sterile technique isn't quite good enough to do so many clean expansions in the sab. Still happy I managed to keep going that long tho

I can't remember which thread it was or really who was discussing the topic that no matter how sterile and clean a culture is, that there will be a trace amount of something. I feel that would catch up before senescence would show up.

If there really is any trace microbia in sterilized grain jars, this will be taken care of by healthy mycelium; otherwise expansion would be impossible for the reason you just mentioned.
If you expand tainted spawn it will be noticeable pretty quickly.

I really need to buy a dedicated fridge, next time I'll just keep the original 10 solely for expansion.
What's the term for each gen of expansion? I feel like I remember pasty saying "P" some where i.e. P1, P2, P3 for each expansion away from the master

why are spawn bags always sealed with the gussets folded and never straight sealed?

People straight seal, just not a lot of people in mush cult. You'll be seeing a lot of straight sealed bags when my sealer gets here.

You need a pretty long ass sealer to straight seal a large bag.

Noticed this harvesting my TAS shoebox. Is this second one to the right an albino variant by chance?

Maybe leucistic. If you let it open to see spores color you could tell if it was albino. May be another way that I'm not aware of, I just know true albino spores have no color whereas leucistics look albino but still have colored spores.

After 12 years of no flow hood and less than clean spawn... I'm thinking of finally getting a flow hood. One question... has anyone made a hole in their flow hood tabletop to allow a 4 quart myco bag to sit lower, thereby getting by with a smaller filter? If not, what is the proper minimum size for g2g with large 4 quart bags?

I have a 16” 2mm sealer. It sucks balls. Greatly prefer my new one. It does a fine job even though I need to keep the gussets folded.

I got this bad boy, 5 mm:

Once I finally get my gourmet farm really kicking I'll be using it to straight seal the 10lb xls bags.

I've got a 16" ball sucker sitting in storage and a 12" AIE-305 next to my hood. Thinking I might upgrade to the AIE-405 sooner rather than later.. It'll be interesting to see how your straight sealed spawn works out, p9, and if the increased plenum size has any noticeable effect on colonization speed (doubt it but that'd be cool).
I've played with all kinds of settings on my AIE-305 but still get bad seals annoyingly often. My bags are made of a different material than most though, it's a more opaque plastic. Got them cheap from a GOOB sale and still have at least 800 to burn through.
edit: good luck on your farm p9! I'm gonna pick my gourmets back up this spring if COVID starts to finally clear up down here...

Thats shitty, these are expensive sealers. I'd ditch those shitty bags and get some proper unicorn bags. Seems like a waste to purchase an expensive unit just to have it perform like a shitty one because of poor quality bags.
