overkill, yes, but if you've ever poured from a mason jar you know it's contam vector when it drips down those threads. the mouth on these is just about as big as a wide mouth mason jar, just a hair smaller. can still drop whole plates in. im planning on installing an oster blade on the lid when i get around to it. im in the same boat as you, starting to get annoyed at my master middle men but my LCs always ruin my month.
I actually decided to use an old kombucha bottle from the store after seeing these! I saw them online on other sites, and that lead me to looking at other glass bottles, realized that kombucha comes in tall sided bottles with nice gaps between the cap and the threads. Works great!

For APE I wouldn't recommend one. I cased my APE once and it just meant I had to clean those fuckers more. Mine did perfectly fine with just a top layer at spawning.

For standard PE I add a top layer of substrate at spawning and then I'll case once it's colonized and then case again once the first casing is colonized. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/26528392/page/7/fpart/all

thank you kindly as always Crackatoa.
I assumed APE and PE behaved the same way. I should have learned by now to never assume when it comes to myc.
I'd read Ted's thread earlier and was going to follow it for APE, appreciate you saving me.

I have decent success going agar to bags using: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27088090/page/1
I can usually have a bag colonized before a jar.
I’ve also used munchs blenderless LI with great success
And for bag2bag, use this: https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27138762
As long as you have a sealer, it makes bag transfers pretty damn easy
Fuck jars haha!!

im jealous, I'd love to work like that. trying to get there.
anyone know where I can get some ~8" needles for aspirating LC out of an unmodded media bottle? Amazon's got some but it's too expensive (1 syringe, 6 needles for $13). I'd prefer some I can reuse / autoclave unless the disposables are super cheap.

what style of pressure cookers are you guys doing your grain bags in the rocker style or the pressure gauge style? is it going to be a problem that im using the rocker style cookers? ive notice most people use the gauge style ones ive ran about 12 bags threw my presto rocker style cooker and all came looking sealed and none had popped. i do make sure it stays at a slow constant rocking as not to run out of water.

I’ve never used a PC without a gauge, but if the rocker is set to 15 psi, just assume it’s at that and cook accordingly

I got both and use both. I'll use the rocker style for agar and such. Jars go in the other.

I always let my pc get to 5psi before I put the rocker on

Yeah mine has both a gauge and a rocker. Sometimes use an instantpot for agar but mostly use my presto 23 for everything. to be fair though, before I got my larger presto I used the smaller one with just a rocker. Probably not ideal, but it worked well enough. Definitely got fruits out of it so I was happy.
