On the monotub. About when pinning starts. My not inoculated control bags when south about the same time.
(16psi for 3.25 hrs)

I ask because after forgetting I was heating my PC and venting much longer than normal, my PC ran dry (couldn't maintain pressure) at about the 109 min mark. I have pt jars, half pt jars, and a syringe and beaker in there so I think 109 will be ok but it got me thinking about what the norm is now days.
I normally hydrate oats just enough that a very small portion of the center of the oats is still white and run them for 90min @ 17-18psi. If the center is completely cooked I run them for 80min.

That's what the method I've used the most. I used noprep a little bit with success but then I stopped and now it seems to not work for me any more so I may just say fuck it and go back to a soak. I just don't wanna.

I find that its less hassle when prepping a decent amount of grain. I'm soaking ~30lbs right now and its soo much less effort than loading bags with grain and then weighing them while I add water.

Hello everyone
Here are 4 recently inoculated oat grain jars.

I am wondering why they are progressing at different rates, as these were all inoculated at the same time. Also, does the 4th jar look contaminated? Whatever is clinging to the grain looks suspicious...
Thanks

The difference in colonisation time is not an issue in itself. That could just be due to inconsistencies in inoculation or jar content.
Looks like agar not ms syringe.
Crackatoa, what bits worry you? Moisture and green looking grains? Not challenging you as I'm a noob also, looking to learn.

Those don't look healthy or good in the slightest. The patchy white on one jar might be the dredded pirate Trich!

Number 1 seems to be the only one I would wait on unless you happened to shake the second one and that discoloration is bruising. The third and fourth jars seem to be just mold.

The first two still possibly have a chance but the last two with the inconsistent colors and the bottom areas having that haziness and the last one I don't even know what color those grains are. The oats seem to be prepped well, moisture looks good. The first couple I notice his glass is making it look green, I don't think it is. I would worry more about the first two if I knew the same media was used to inoculate all 4.

The first two don't even look good to me. They don't have the typical stringy/finger like mycelium look. There is potential, so i'd keep them for a few more days, but the bottom two are definitely fucked. #3 notice the unorganized growth, how it almost looks like someone shredded a cotton ball and tossed it in the jar. Defs not cube myc. #4 that thick dense white coating over the grains is a smoking gun.
When i first joined the hobby and had sketchy jars, a lot of the old heads would say "chuck it, make more spawn." I was always eager to hold onto sketchy jars because i wanted the fruits. Now i tend to agree with the old heads, spawn is cheap and easy to make, so just make more! I hate throwing away grain because of the sunken cost fallacy (especially time, we all know how long things can take sometimes), but it's more productive in the long run to give up the losers and let the winners run.
Edit:

Man i've seen these before, and as much as i initially laugh and think "there's no fuckin way that works, right?" what if it DID work. and i blew a few grand on a prebuilt flowhood
Edit 2: Man scrolling some of the new posts in that sub, check this shit. The timing of that harvest gets my dick so fucking hard! If only i could harvest every mushroom right at this point https://www.reddit.com/r/shroomers/comments/l6d2d7/i_did_it_my_first_harvested_mushroom_ever_got/

They look good to me clock If your wanted to go cheap, a shmuvbox works well enough. I left open plates in one I made back in day and they all came out clean.

Speaking of bad jars, look at this monstrosity, I wanted to try the blenderless tek and was too impatient to wait to grow myc out on soft agar so chucked 2 20% LME plates in sterile water shook the fuck out of it (they barely broke up) and poured it in 8 jars. The first 7 got a dribble of water that probably contained only a tiny bit of myc and this one got basically 2 full plates of water bashed agar lol. I just poured it all in as had given up at that stage. Still, it looks ok and the other 7 are very slowly colonising. I have 12 others doing fine with normal agar transfers, this was just to experiment.
