I don't really know what to say to the previous post.
Does anyone else spit on their PC before putting the weight on or is it just me?

I harvested over 500g wet 1st flush from 10 brf cakes in a mono sized watertub chamber. I could fit at least 5 more cakes in no problem. I'm currently trying to figure out whether it's actually more efficient for me to just run cakes rather than tubs when I don't need to produce more than that monthly...

just realised this is ridiculous. I love experimenting and the process itself more than I want the product. I could do cakes to maintain my own supply on the side always though.
I might just continue to have this conversation with myself. Don't mind me

Im struggling to find any good threads on substrate depth. I know 1" to 6" works, but doest it really make a difference?
Whats the consensus then?
I would love if you link me a conclusive thread on this topic
Thanks for the help!

The best is to do your own experiments. I think there is more than one optimal sub depth, it really depends on the size and FAE of the tubs you are using.

Could someone recommend a current CVG-Tek? Not sure which one is currently the common and best way to go - Got the tip to go for a more updated one as the one from Spitball I have used till now.

From what I've read, deeper substrates tend to produce more fruit, simply because they can store more moisture and have a bit more nutrition than a thinner layer. However, they also colonize slower. So it's probably about finding a personal balance between colonization time and how much fruit your bins are producing.

More moisture in the deeper substrates also means you are more likely to be able to set and forget and not have to mist or rehydrate at least before flush 1.
Schemenhaft, why don't you do Bod's coir only Tek? just google 'bod coir tek' or if you want to use verm too then google 'damion5050 tek'
I swabbed 2 plates with avery's albino swabs a week ago and there is literally no sign of life, is this normal for swabs? I've only done ms syringe, transfers and clones before and all showed life after a few days.

i always make my tubs 1.5 inches tall with no problems.
But then i started wondering if i am missing something. Like maybe taller subtrates are more nutritious but will eventually contaminate and thus they may note get to show their full potential?
Its mainly a worry about efficiency I usually have no more than 4 qts of spawn available to use

For me, I'll make the ratio smaller (close to 1:4 spawn:sub) for bigger fruiting varieties, PE, melmac and my blue meanie clones... for others or untested ones I run those all identical (between 1:1 and 1:2 spawn to sub) so I can weed out the slower ones and then judge the fruits for a better view of clone candidates...
All that said, mine are almost all between 2" and 3" deep... imo, sub depth isn't that huge of a factor... your spawn:sub ration is whats gonna keep you between the lines farther down the road.

Hmmm i see... Thats a great answer.
I was planning on doing 1:4 tubs and adding another jar of spawn would really lead to a thick substrate (more than im used to at least).

So, spawned today my first Penis Envy Tub ever. Its also my first 66qt Tub, modified with Pastys Ez Tubs.
The variety is Albino Penis Envy Reverted (Multispore) - Used 5qt of clean Spawn and around 7qt of CVG mix. The Sub-height is at 3" this time and I made a casing with CVG on top, I really hope this Grow shows better results then my last tubs.
Any tips for this variety? Not sure for all PE-varities casing is a must-have?
