You ain't kidding Crack. Next year when I start selling edibles I'll have to break my rule about bags, but until then I'm going to remain hard headed lol *sighs The real workout is the gallons I like for oysters...

For real! I think shaking a half gallon jar of any grain would be hell on my old man back.
Gallon jars seem like straight masochism

I don't think any of us revel within the thought of shaking a half gallon jar. No sir. I would rather just crush a bag and mix it than say shake a big ol' jar. This is why I've been so focused on bags as of late.

Man I keep going back and forth about bags and I guess my hang up now is my inexperience with LC. I use agar to noc everything and with no flowhood, nocing bags with grain jars is fucking awful. Am I just gonna have to quite dicking around and learn LC or is anyone here doing bags successfully in an SAB with G2G?

You can do it. You can rig a vertical SAB and do G2G with bags. You can even dub two tubs to increase space. Vertical is quick to engineer. Still a PITA but it works.

I am actually drawing up some designs on a vertical SAB so I can use my bags It consists of two tubs each stacked together vertically and then sealed making one big tub. I will use some wire hangers I have laying around to create a supportive base to keep it standing when in use. I plan to have holes just like my regular SAB, except this SAB i'm going to have to stand on a stool to use. I am the shortest Irishman no lie. oh flowhood where art thou.

I was just thinking about using some plexi laying around to make a "nice" SAB for both bags and jars. Just a big ass box, like 4x3, with adjustable arm holes and back lighting and shit. Fuck yeah, we're doin' this!

If you all were forced to do a no-prep tek (I know its not for everyone) which grains would you use? Which wouldn't you use?

I don't have the luxary of having a large enough workshop to have the ability to put anything like that together. All I'm able to work with are easy mold materials like plastics, foils, etc. When I get the space I am planning on a wood shop where I can build all the things I need. But for now I am left with little choice but to design around what I have.

So, now that it’s got my brain smokin, only piece of plexi that would be needed is the front, as long as there’s no reason you couldn’t use a sealer on the wood for the other sides of it. That way surface isn’t absorbing anything......lighting could be done easy too.....and still come out cheaper than a FH......but then later could be converted for a FH.....

Honestly idk. I run my hands through the grains as they dry. With unsoaked grains I feel the need to wash my hands afterwards. With soaked grains I don’t. I’ve only used oats, rye, and wheat in bulk and I do them all the same. Cause I like to. I’ll also spend an hour or two to harvest a tub. Cause I like to.

I actually had my fastest growth ever on no prep wbs. I think the oils and grain dust and stuff helped it spread.
Lately I’ve been soaking 15-24 hours usually changing the water out around 10 hours when all the oil is floating on top.

Anyone strain their PDA to make a clearer agar? I’m thinking of boiling some water+potato flakes and straining that before I add my agar and dextrose

I am contemplating switching from wheat to millet for 4 quart myco bags for cube monos.
Pros: no heat, no drying prep more inoculation points same price as wheat for me
Cons: Gets everywhere perhaps more finicky to hydrate? Does it hold less water? (what would a target water percentage be?)
Can anyone add to this? I'm seeking easier/easiest grain prep.

I agree if you're growing in jars because they usually need to be shaken. But if growing in bags it doesn't seem to make much difference. I have seen no slow growth and I use mostly starchy grains such as popcorn and rice.

I mean this stuff, when I get the grains with that greasy shiny look I can expect slow growth.

I'll try to pay more attention to that sheen with my grains. Thanks for mentioning it.
