Should I harvest little fruits like this as soon as the veil breaks? These ms cakes are sprouting all sorts.

I do but for a long time I did not have one. I used zip ties, rubber bands, hair ties, bread ties, parachute coard, shoe laces ect...
Much easier with a sealer & a larger plenum of air.

So it's almost like 3 days for me to prep this dirty ass barley I'm rocking but I don't have an issue with that either. I wish I had access to those clean pristine wheat kernels from heaven you guys use.
You're not alone. And I've tried boiling without soak and I just don't prefer it. Feels lonely lol

It might get a little bigger, but not much. As long as I can get to it without messing with any around it that aren't breaking yet I would go ahead and pick it.
I'm just about same spot. Letting them one go a bit long so the others catch up.

Thanks Gypsy, looks like you are a day ahead and have more consistent fruits. Mine have varying cap shades, stem thickness etc. had a couple of blobs, a 25g wet one when the others were still babies, all-sorts!

I saw that 25g one. Congrats on that man! That's a hell of a first fruit.

I like to soak and boil. The grains are less starchy with the soak

Josex you mind me asking more specifics about your barley prep you're using now? I want to say it was you that suggested to me lik7-8 months ago to try Bod's oat prep but that left them too wet and I amended Lefty's prep a bit but it's ok but I am just wildly curious what your game is as of now. Still have 100lbs sitting here and ready to play around with it a bit...

Rinse, overnight soak with initial hot water, boil for 45-50 minutes and steam dry till dry on the outside. If they come out wet you need to dry them better.

Much appreciated I'm just not boiling them long enough, period.... Such weird grain to gauge. When they're right, they're amazing. When they're wrong they are without mercy. Difference between barley and other grains though is that it's harder to tell when they're off a bit (IME/IMO).

My grain prep has gotten the same with every grain I use other than WBS. I Just soak for 24hrs and boil for 10-15min then allow it to steam off the excess. bottle, PC, done. WBS though I've had to practice with the last few days. Quick prep WBS is so easy now but I hate working with it, its like sand, I have WBS in every corner of my grain prep area.

Yeah WBS is zombie work lol. I prep my WBS pretty dry and use it for LC/LI > masters mostly. Barley I like for half gallons because it just colonizes the bigger jars faster when the prep is right. Great shakability. My wife likes the smell lol. Just a little finicky.

I got like 128lbs of WBS for free so now I have no choice but to use it.

Half gallon jars? I'd hate to shake that big fucker. After a dozen quart jars my shoulder is killing me.
