need some insight on grain bags. sick of trying to find answers on here and getting 30 teks that all say something different so ill post this here, and fs someone whants to DM me that would be awesome.
what do they mean by the filter patch being "R" or "mm"
what size should i get for my presto 23 quart canners? -Salai Filter Patch Bags Large-'R' patch -Salai Filter Patch Bags XLLong-'MM' patch the vendor also has unicorn bags aswell but they cost is quite a bit in comparisson to these ones. they also carry multiple sizes but im looking for the large ones to fit as much grain as possible with lowest amount of bags possible.
final question and this is gunna be a controversial one.......do i buy the tyvex sleeves or skip that step and let them self seal. ive read alot of contradicting statement towards sleeves and ive heard people say they dont use them and other say they wont use bags without sleeve.

First ever fruit has been harvested. Buzzing. In to the dehydrator the lonely fella goes for 24hrs at 160f. I took tissue samples on 4 plates.

Check out aisian markets for much larger colanders, like 3ft in diameter. Perfect for oats.

Rolls of window screen work awesome for turning your sink into a large colander.

So I've been messing around with no boil prep for wheat, but I'm thinking I should move over to millet because I'm having bacteria problems with wheat. There is steam coming off your millet in this photo... but it can't be hot after a 12hr soak. How do you dry your millet? Can you load it somewhat damp?

This is wheat and yes its steaming. I soak my millet in 5 gal buckets lined with brewers bags that I pull from the buckets and allow to drain in that ss sink. The bags drain for about half an hour before bagging and the sterilizing, the grains (millet) are slightly wet but this is soaked up during the cycle.

Yeah my setup is a pain in the ass, these oats also have bits of straw and shit in and are really messy so the clean up is annoying. My kitchen sink is small but something like that window shield in the bath would be good

Yeah thats why I made the switch to millet. Less energy investment to produce more inoculation points.

Its not that complicated, I just source white millet from a local feed store. Soak in buckets, sterilize. It couldn't be easier.

Yeah grain soaking and pc cooling are perfect if you time them to happen while you’re sleeping
Millet even works well as no prep too. I think it’s so hard that it needs to be PCd a little wet to force the water in.

The easiest and cleanest method I found for millet was no prep, 1 cup millet, a little less than 1/2 cup water and PC for 90 min.

if your oats have straw and corn and other crapo in them then you got the wrong oats and neede to get triple washed race oats. these oats come with absolutly nothing in the bag and very very minimal dust aswell. just rinse, boil load jars done......

They seem to be colonizing ok at the moment. They are from a race horse website and are whole oats so think they are ok but could get better no doubt

Do fruits in a dehydrator on their own dry quicker? This has gone from 24.6g to 3g in a few hours and is close to cracker dry. Still leave it in? What's the worst that happens if I leave it in for the full 24 hours?
