Aside from PE I don’t notice a difference between real casing and a top layer so I quit doing it.

That tub looks healthy but I’d watch out for water starting to pool on the edges, and maybe mist it super lightly. Usually myc has little beads on it by the time it’s colonized that much.

I’ll look into that, I’ve got bag of peat and some lime in the shed that I was planning on mixing up.  Hadn’t heard much on using straight verm as a casing.  Do elaborate, if you don’t mind.

It's the same idea behind casing cakes. It provides plenty of moisture, by nature vermiculite is supposedly resistant to contaminants and provides no nutrients. You don't want more nutrients at all. Mushrooms have to run out of nutrition or they'll eat themselves to death never fruiting because they weren't triggered to the next cycle of their life. So a casing is only to provide that micro climate. U can use bubble wrap, wax paper, vermiculite, peat moss...I've used all successfully except peat moss. But coco coir is substrate not a casing

I’m aware it’s not a casing.  But the handful or two of the coco/verm mix on top, is more along the idea of not having to mist tubs.  I’ve been known to misunderstand things, and I’ve only been at it a couple years, which is why I ask.  It makes perfect sense, but I thought the point of wrapping birthed cakes in verm was more of a holding the hydration issue?

My onyx dead prez mix with some krs1, wu tang clan, Tupac, common etc. Get in that revolution mood and zone out after 4 or 5 dabs and a couple hard ciders. Sometimes listen to its going down podcast.

Stoner / Doom stuff usually like Weedeater, Acid King, Bongripper, Church of Misery, Yob, etc.
Slow music gets me in the groove for steady SAB work.

I like to listen to SOAD.

My dad listened to that type of music growing up. Grower of cannabis in the 70s and 80s. Also 82nd airborne Ranger in army. Pink Floyd gives me ptsd flashbacks for real. I tend to go either straight up revolutionary hip hop, vintage randb like Sam Cooke, Nina Simone or straight hillbilly with shooter Jennings and outlaw shit. But if it reminds me of him nope.

I tried listening to some ghostemane while doing some transfers and I kept headbanging and realized I'm stirring up the air. Cant jam to hard while doing that stuff lol.

And anything that I can sing I try to avoid to because I sure as shit will have some open plates or grains and just spewing some bacteria in there

Righteous, Dr. Mario. Fucking righteous.

I see at least of few are like me and start to work at the speed of the music. For SAB work I'll usually go for something jazzy like EST, or Nujabes in the hiphop genre, or good ol' Woody Guthrie.

For harvest and sub work it's more no holds barred. From OTT to Butthole Surfers. Lots of DnB; Total Science, Commix, Bad Company. MF Doom, Run the Jewels, Ween, Portishead.

I guess short answer is whatever I feel like for tubs and subs but for SAB or lab work it's gotta have a certain calm and soothing timbre to help me maintain that smooth work flow. Kinda odd that smooth jazz works for that because it is at face value anything but smooth. Once I kinda lose myself in it a bit; shits smooth like glass.

Question for all you. After you bucket tek your coir do you let it sit to build up bacteria? I've been hearing about people doing this lately and I was always under the impression I should be using it immediately the next day. For those of you who do wait, do you find you get better results than using immediately?

I've left coir in a lidded bucket for over a week. Don't recall having any issues with bacteria.
usually try to prep only what I need but if it had to sit for a few days before I go to it, I never worried about it.

Aren't people leaving it a few days on purpose? I feel like I've been reading that lately...
