To birth or not to birth - that is the question! I noticed there's a good size mushrooms growing on the side of the jar. The jars were inoculated on 12/17 and seem to be 99% colonized but I'm not sure what to do. Here's a pic

You've asked that question multiple times.
Birth them, chop off the brf that isn't colonized or top fruit them.
Good day.

What happens if I let them sit for another 3-5 days?

They probably won't look any better in a few days.  How long have they been like that?

The invitro pins will continue to grow and the myc will stall out if it doesn't colonize the last bit of BRF.
DigDug, They've been like that all week from my knowledge on how long he's been asking about it.

What a waste of a pinset though.

They just started pinning (that I noticed) about 4 days ago. Now it looks like the pins are accelerating and turning into mushrooms.

I think the issue is that there's too much light near the incubation box (clear tote).

Light has nothing to do with it at this point.
Something interior has caused it to stall. Either the bottoms are too dry or have bacteria.

I guess I'm going to birth them tonight. The only reason I'm hestitant is that I've read many posts that state to (I think) to let them solidify 4-5 days after full colonization.

Those tall half pints are known for stalling out.

I’ve seen people say flipping the jar upside down for a few days can help but idk. I’d prob just birth it and slice 1/4” off the end.

They're way past that.  Anymore and it's going to start producing metabolites and looking worse than it does.  Listen to mushhead and birth them.  You should still get fruits.

OK, I've birthed the cakes. Here are some pictures:

If you notice there is some teal coloring on the cakes and on the mushrooms that I picked. Is this contamination?

Nope just bruising. Dunk em for 24 hours. Roll them in coir. toss em into a FC.
You can roll em in Verm too, but I like Coir better.

I know ppl have found weevils/other little bugs in their oats and for the first time so did I. Now I think they are dead primarily cuz they are not moving and were outside below freezing for a few days but there will be no way to remove them. Is it cool to just cook them in the pc. Im sure they won't be a big problem but I never ran into this trouble before.

My grain supplier just hooked me up with 2 lbs. of black turtle beans (hopefully no weevils )...

My first thought was "Can I cult with this?" lol
I did find a nice recipe for cuban black beans with mango salsa UTFSE though, so I guess we will be eating good soon.

Thanks for the info. For my next batch, I need to trouble shoot and figure out why the jars started pinning early. Also, need to find a way to get the jars to fully colonize on the bottom. The jars I have are not ideal but it was the only ones I could find during this pandemic.

Try flipping jars upside down halfway through colonization
