If I don't modify my lids then my wife would steal them for the kitchen.

I ended up sticking a hot nail through my plastic lids and putting tape over it. The line between gas exchange and letting contams in was way too small for me just loosening them.

It's just to easy to use SFD stickers and some silicon to risk it. You can heat up a medium sized hex key and put holes in like two-three lids without reheating, so pretty quick to.
I have tried using plain plastic lids a few times just unscrewing, and had success everytime. But always sketches me out and not worth my nerves lol.

So a side note to the sfd and sillycone, scuff up that area where it sticks on the lid, I just noticed some lids with the silicone coming loose......needs something to adhere to.

No-mod lids ftw. I havent tried the mainstays, but the ball brand "leak-proof" lids work flawlessly. Seal the lid and then crack it about 1"-2". No problems yet.

Fuzzy growth far up stem = too little air, too much humidity?
I'm guessing too little Fae and too much humidity. Cause way more drier "masses" of way smaller mycelium can put out way bigger clusters of fruits than this.
Or genetics?

The Mainstays aren't bad but you'll get ones that warp and not wanna go on smoothly, only the wide mouth though.

Yeah I've have a few leak-proof lids warp if they're on too tight when they go in the PC.

The only thing I like about the metal lids is the ring.I can screw off the ring and alcohol the hell out of it. Speaking of, about to go G2G 2 to 18, pour 20 plates and make 2 monos. It's gonna a long night. Work all day, work at night and going back to work afterwards to I can go to the dentist tomorrow. FML

Shit my lids are all over the place. So still have 4 holes for PF, some are 2 piece, some have SFD siliconed to them. Some I just slapped a whole SFD under the lid and called it good enough. I was going to try the plastic ones but ordered wrong size and never re-ordered.

I got a bunch of the no leaks to try recently. Only done one run with em so far and only did seven jars because I wasn’t sure if it was okay to do no-mod plastic lids stacked on top horizontally. Do you guys just treat them like normal modded lids other than being slightly loosened?

Imo, the two piece metal lids do not need modification either. Just flip the lid so that the seal side is up.

The only thing I hate about flipping lids is when doing G2G they're easy to knock off. I take all my rings off first, and a shit show can happen pretty easy. You can take the seal out and the contour of the lid will keep it in place.. I'm sure you can leave ring loose and PC without lid modification.

I have a few that I put a small SFD on and a SHIP opposite of it. I made them just as a "probably useful for something" kind of thing as at the time I wasn't doing any LC but they are pretty useful. Great for sterilizing water to make MSS. It was definitely a pain to cut and silicone the SFDs that I did, but I admit I really like the look/feel/ease/vibe of them. If I wasn't so broke, I would just buy enough SFDs to have a full one on each jar. Makes me feel fancy

I use two small round magnets in my glove under the index finger. Lids lift up easily without any problem.

Wow thats smart!
I recently started using polyfil aswell and im also strugling to understand if its properly placed.
I followed bods tek and used a ver small screwdriver to push the poly through. It feels quite tight, just a little like home made, and that leaves me a bit uneasy. Still havent had a problem though.
I wonder where i could get sfd's from here in Argentina

The magnets were not my idea. Just a little gem I picked up from another member on the boards.

I have some of these somewhere, can I just use these with epoxy instead of polyfill on lids?

With poly, I pull off a chunk and twist out around and around, bend that in half and shove the bent side into the hole and pull from the other side, and snip off any crazy shit hanging out the top. I will leave a little, like a little handle to pick it up when I'm doing G2G.
