It's been sitting in a relatives basements for probably 20+ years and they have no use for it. Only concern is it may be too big. Gonna go have a look at it tomorrow hopefully and get specs. I always lumber laying around so all I would need it the HEPA (and some bits and pieces) and I'm in business like nobody's business. And for the cheap cheap too!
Thata how I did mine... filter was the most expensive by far... all said and done I think it was less than 700 bucks.

Haha, see everytime I start thinking positive about it someone throws a number like that out and crushes my hope of having one anytime soon. Oh well I collected parts for a project for 15 years before getting them all once. I guess I can do it again.

I should clarify... the whole build was under 700... my filter was 350ish if I remember correctly...

I know somebody that just found a big one at a pawn shop for 50 bucks.
It’d be a straight up miracle if somebody found a second one but it happens.

Unless you're doing bags if money is tight you can get away with making a smaller unit for agar and such.
My first unit used a Camfil Megalam 16x16x4.5" filter, I got two of the filters off ebay for about $90 and the blower is a new dayton 1TDR5 dual blower for $80 Some plywood, glue, gasket tape and silicone and off we go.
More than enough room for doing agar work, g2g with jars etc. If need be I can build a new box to put the filters together side by side to make a 32x16" filter face but I worry about the amount of dead zone that would be in the middle.

Try a feed store, hydroponics store or otherwise. Can buy 119l bags for $40 or so. Big fuckers.

Faht you're referring to the 8qt bag, which is about 60% smaller than that 2 cu ft bag I posted, hence the price difference. I've been buying that $5 8qt one for awhile.
I'll look into that starbones. I always buy coir from hydro shops, can't say I recall seeing verm at any of them around me.
I'm going to go with your recommendation Quadryder, that's the best deal I can find right now. Thank you.

So for the longest time I have had a hard time getting the lid to release on my AA, I would usually unscrew the knobs and tap the edge with a little hammer or mallet. I finally realized I was beating up the aluminum and had a eureka moment that kinda seems like common sense now.
If your AA lid is stuck tight because of a good PC run, just insert a flat head screw driver in between the lid and the base and twist. Pops right off. Hope this helps someone else. I kinda feel like a retard now for hammering my AA for all these years.

If my verm layer on brf cakes has been breached and mycelium is growing up through it what are the odds on them not getting contaminated?
Im guessing a bit of moisture got in the verm either when I PC'd or because I've been looking at them too often.

Contaminants aren't going to grow on the verm layer. The verm layer is meant to protect the cake underneath. If the mycelium is colonizing the verm layer than the cake is most likely fully colonized at this point and the mycelium is in search of more food and water.

Thanks, I wondered if the mycelium growing through would allow contams to travel on it through the verm layer to the cake. I'm very new to this.
I'll keep an eye on them and birth in about a week, they are only just all white.

How long have they been all white? Might be time to birth and dunk them now. I know the ideal thing is 1 week for consolidation, but that picture looks ready to me.

Maybe a couple of days, it's my first grow so am eager to fruit so am happy to be encouraged to do it now haha. I'll upload a better pic of all angles of the jar soon.
They aren't as bright white as lots that I see so wasn't sure if it would thicken and become more like that if I leave them a bit longer.
