Lol, i did realise it wasn't wheat but it did its job and reminded to say thanks.

I suppose the idea might be more fae = quicker colonisation

I'm seeing what looks like MP tape covering what I imagine is a poly filter. That's totally unnecessary, poly by itself is a reliable filter for jars if you make it nice and tight and it can take lots of cycles before going bad.
@Schemenhaft, your jars growing slowly could be caused by a number of things, dry grains and low temps are common. I don't think it's the filter. Do you have a pic of those slow jars?
Most of the jars are all made out of the same grain "charge" and always a pair of two is made from the same agar-plate, stored in the same room. The only difference is the lid, one with unmodified lid laying on the mouth and taped just for not falling down if I pick them up and one with a lid with polyfil-filter.
I could give you pics in around 2-3 days, shook them this morning to see if they do something.
Most of the experimental jars with top-laying lids are 100% and even spawned in monotubs since wednesday, the other jars are at around 20-30%. Think its because of the FAE, but not sure. The lid is not screwd down - The lid was screwed down as experiment what happens If they are 100% unmodified and closed, they were growing very slow, slower then the poly-lids. Then opened the lid and taped it and they were colonizing in crazy short amount of time.

What's your favorite tea and method to use? Basic herbal ginger and lemon for me. Maybe A dash of honey.
I just boil it and drink it raw. Hate the taste though, might try adding broth or something eventually if I can ever remember to pick it up at the store. I’ve got a bunch of watermelon kool aid packets for hooch but I feel like it wouldn’t go well with mushroom flavor lol

@Schemenhaft, the poly on my lids is tight as hell, that's how it has to be. There's plenty GE even with tight poly. Pics will tell a lot when you can take them. These lids aren't made to be used unmodified because they're not threaded, them just resting on top is sketchy as hell. These are not like these threaded big plastic lids we often see here that people use unmodified.

I like sleepytime tea for shroom tea. Chamomile, spearmint, lemon grass. Add some honey a little milk. It's like a big blanket in a cup.

I'd probably spawn a 8 quart shoebox with 1000ml. Of grain spawn.
Hydrate coir in a.bucket with tap water.

That stuff with a lid laying on top was just the "solution" to maybe get usable spawn, wouldn't do it again because its way to dangerous to get contamination - I am just wondering about the decent results, expected to get crazy contaminated shit-spawn with slow colonisation.
Maybe I'll get better colonisation in my new jars - Newer ones are made now made with a presto-PC, the current jars we are talking about were all made with a common european-pressure-cooker, I think this one was maybe not best and I have still hidden contamination in jars or something.
My poly-filters are tight as hell, don't think I could make them more thight.
Maybe I'll see better colonisation in the Presto-Jars, inoculated them on Tuesday.

Gee I dunno, I didn't make any effort for super tight poly. It's just stuffed in. I did flame it though. Been working like a champ.

Wow such bright new shiny lids! 11-12-2019 Ha ha, is there a hint of OCD in that picture?

So I was harvesting some KSSS and had a little cluster on flush 3 that did something weird. One of the bigger mush in the cluster had starting bleeding blue liquid out of the middle and onto the substrate before I touched it. Never seen this before.
Not particularly worried about it but has anyone else ever seen this?
And on another note, I decided to try a new coir brand, called coco bliss, and used the same amount of water and verm as usual and it turned into an almost mud-like consistency
If I just let it air dry you think it will turn back semi-normal?
If it ain't broke don't fix it I guess lol

How far away from the hood do you guys work?
I’m already getting lax and caught myself holding a wedge on the scalpel a couple feet from the face.

Ted I dont think it was bacterial as there's no green and only thing wrong with sub was it just got a little matted from leaving it open on accident which made it weirder that it was juicy lol.
And aka I've been working right up on the front and seems to be working pretty well, would like a bigger table to use but seems to be a good distance. I would also like to know what's the best distance though.

Some people say to work right up against the hood because rr used to say to, but I work about 3-6" away from the face.
I do this because I did a smoke test on both my hoods and within 1" of the filter face ther is a small amount of turbulance. Laminar flow starts about 2" from the face and continues to about 12" and any further it gets turbulent again.
Real labs have you work 6" away from the face.

I use the mycelium emporium (https://www.themyceliumemporium.com/). Good quality cultures. If you order this month use the code "January" for $10 off a purchase of $35 or more. Not affiliated, just a customer...

I got some A. Bisporus LC from one of our vendors. Not sure if I can say their name in this case or not but I can PM it to you if you'd like. It's my only experience so can't really compare but they did grow.

Ok cool. I read six inches too so that’s where I’ve been trying to stay, it helps that the hood is so big I only have like ten inches of desk left.

I have been dreaming of a flowhood for so long but just could spare the cost to build. I think I my have just found a blower. It's been sitting in a relatives basements for probably 20+ years and they have no use for it. Only concern is it may be too big. Gonna go have a look at it tomorrow hopefully and get specs. I always lumber laying around so all I would need it the HEPA (and some bits and pieces) and I'm in business like nobody's business. And for the cheap cheap too!
