You could also try polyfill, I feel like that could work
I like the marbles, would they be better smaller, like ball bearings

Ok hear me out,

or feathers, you see the way I figure it is what better to keep moisture in than a ducks waterproof feathers? They should help hold the moisture in real' good and should weigh fuck all.. We use polyfil pillow stuffing so think of this as the next evolution because now we're taking the feathers out of a pillow and voila. The un-pillow tek.
Ten points to gryffindor if you use case with a layer of shake or just loose airy popcorn buds.

I might have to try the pine needles in a shoebox with some PE or SAT. Next time I see some, wonder if they'll need to be PCed.

I like the feathers. I will add that to the list for sure. If the gum wasn't so expensive I would consider it.Something like that i might throw on when I see knots. Maybe pyrite. Atleast then it will last forever.

Pine needles have turpentine in them which might not go well. I want to say sock tried this last year.

Wouldn't pickles start rotting / decomposing quickly in open air?

That's what I was thinking, people around here use them to kill grass. I know they're pretty damn acidic as well.

yeah there's a reason pine needles completely dominate the forest floor in dense areas. They tend to kill off everything else either by matting them down, or from the resins and acids and such in them. That is not to say that some fungi don't like them, but I dunno about cubes. Still, would love to find out!

Well again its for a picture. I will do what i have to get result. Its not really about testing if something works well. coir/ver works well. I dont think pine needles will stop my proven isolate from fruiting completely. Maybe spruce tips would be better.

Theres quite a bit of salt and vinegar in them. So much so it might hinder the growth of the mushrooms. But idk shit

Thats completely logical. I also agree with GrinchGrower that there is a strong possibility of rot. I think it's going to come from contact with the substrate not the open air. Those things can sit out for weeks and only shrivel up. Since Pasty wants to see the pickles ill still give it a go. im gona rinse them in water and let them air dry while the sub colonizes for about about a week then maybe a thin layer of dry verm before I add em.
Really the idea is to stick to non organic things.

Pine needles I honestly think wouldn't help in anyway with mush cult. My opinion is based off my hatred for pine trees and how they spread their pine blight. What grows in a pinewood forest? Not much other than weeds and pine trees. They smell nice though so there's that.

Watch fucking gherkins being the magic bullet that causes 2 foot mushrooms in a solid canopy. Pine needles have a pH of something like 3 or so. Dunno how that'd affect things but now I'm queerious about adding fucking pine needles to grain spawn and PCing them.
The soil underneath pine trees in the forest is like gold when those things decompose. I wonder...
