:trollhide:
don't mind me.
So for the new year on Jan 1st I started Pan cints, Gulf Coast, Malabar coast, Rustywhyte, and Ecuador spores.
New year new cultures, except that awesome PESA culture.
Its gonna stick around for a while.

Mush, did your PESA have meaty stems? I hope mine aren’t all hollow

It's been a while since I've run PF jars. First of them ready for dunk, however the containers I previously used for this are nowhere to be found. What's the consensus on fruiting cakes in the jar these days: Loss of yield and sidepin hell or efficient use of space and materials?

Well truthfully I am only just barely getting my first PESA fruits.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27116137#27116137
I did this LC with the help of the TCs here which is now on grain after passing an agar test.
I'll grab a pic of the first pins I'm seeing and keep a detailed log on them for you if you wish.

So you didn’t fruit your culture before lc?

Nope. I get really excited about things and just kinda dive in head first.
I was working on advancing my LC skills so I thought why not go straight lc.
I did make sure my culture was clean, spawned a full agar plate to grain, dropped that quart into a shoe box.

Here's the shoebox, you can see the first pinning showing up.
I plan to take clones and proceed from there, I'm really hoping for some good genetics.

The lot of my relatives are still in Eire.
I live in the desert, like sand, cactus, and tarantulas.
I wish I was back overseas with how the US is at the moment tbh.

Meh, Ireland's lovely to visit, but you may know the phase "Ireland's greatest export is her son's."
There a lot of truth in it. Don't get me wrong I love going home but I'd fuckin hate to stay 😂
I do fondly remember picking libs in the mountains as a teen tho.

The other day I took a decent amount of PE, was having visuals and feelin goofy, and kept on eating em since I wanted to trip some balls. At one point I started getting sweats, got dizzy, and when I laid down I felt like I was about to blast off and welcomed it. But *snap* I came out of it and felt next to normal, still a lil trippy. I thought if I just tried to go to sleep then I'd blast off but it never happened. This ever happen to anyone?

Connemara forest was where I used to go foraying when I lived there.
You're right, her best exports are her son's.
Ireland doesn't have mountains m8, we have some tall hills but thats it.

Pour a 1/2" layer of wet perlite into a monotub.
Mix your sub and spawn outside of the tub, pour it in overtop the perlite but not mixing the perlite in.
Level and case it.

Coir gonna succ up all that water and become soggycity or will the perlite hold onto it and feed the mycelium that reaches it if you got genetics that likes to fructify like a bastard and can pump the water like Peter North at an orgy?
Contam city?

I think it might be bottom pin city. Myc might love that microclimate.

I think you'd be better off bottom watering as needed.

If you pull 500g wet off a flush, good chance that sub could use around 500g of water.

Could solve the problem of underpinning there by throwing down a layer of pure sub and slightly slightly compacting it to remove air gaps to prevent evaporation to stop knotting. Myc can get through it to access the water contained in the perlite but its all a wash if the coir just absorbs the water from the perlite, sogs out and you got nothing but some damp perlite hanging around.

Vermiculite might be an idea. I know people USED to do this stuff like 15 years ago when doing casings. Wonder what it'd do with modern teks.

I got lots of spawn, might be something to fuck around with. It all depends on the myc being good genetics to pump that water, it being able to access the water and the coir not becoming waterlogged.

Or I could just bottom water yeah haha.

Hi all,

I'm having my first two monotubs colonize right now; they're WBS from agar + coir only, at a ratio of 1:2. They're relatively small monotubs (~30 qt).

Anyway, I've noticed that both already have their surface entirely covered (it's been 5 days, no casing), while the interior - I used no liner so I can see it - is taking noticeably longer and most of it thus far is wispy exploratory mycelium. I'm not overly worried as the myc clearly continues to spread even there and I've already got several small patches of solid white myc even there.

Just wondered, however, if it's normal and usual/expected ? kinda makes sense to me as it's easier for the myc to move accross the surface than through the sub but wanted some feedback.

I'm not sure if I'd advise anyone else to do this, but if I have some larger fruits or a big canopy I've bottom watered early knowing that the sub would suck it up.

Perlite or verm seems like a good idea if you're having difficulty dialing in a tub in harsh climates but also adds a layer of difficulty and something that could possibly mess it up.

I'd look at maybe increasing sub depth to feed some monsters but I've read that anything over 6" is redundant.

It is for me. Usually get fully colonized surface before the sub completely colonizes. 5 days is a little fast but not uncommon in 1:1 in shoeboxes.

This is 10 days

Thanks a bunch ! Between the agar transfers, the grains, and the low temps where I live right now those two tubs are the culmination of a two months wait so I'm watching them like a hawk  really hoping for a success.
