Thanks man, does the growth other than that look ok? It's only ms. I'm working on agar at the same time.

UK people are 6500k, 25w (1500 lumens) bulbs easy to come by? Everything I can find is like 11w.

5000k works as good as 6500k. I have used both without any issues. If you can't find anything close I believe that additional light sources can be added to supplement. Though light isn't an extremely important item with fungus as it is with other plants.

All the info is so contradictory. Winter over here I probably won't get much more than 7/8 hours natural daylight where I plan to fruit so I'll add a bulb.
How important is the wattage/lumens Vs the k?

Why can't you buy tube fittings that can be plugged in to the mains? I can find guides to wire a plug, maybe I just do that

Seriously man, don't over complicate the lighting, just use a regular blue spectrum bulb and it'll all be fine.

Has anybody grown this new black pearl gourmet? I guess it’s a king oyster hybrid.
I just knocked up a bunch of jars but I’ve never seen it and apparently it’s pretty new on the scene.

Inthepit said: Well GB, "Re: PC talk I have only even used prestos (i'm poor) but I have never put the lid on after bringing it to boil; always just attached lid, vented, then added weight. I'm curious about this now. Is it for easier/quicker venting? I actually grabbed my manual before posting this to double check I didn't miss something."
I can't find who I got that idea from. It may be a subtle thing, but what I like is that I can be screwing around and when the water is boiling or close to it I can put the lid on and in a very short time be on the 10 minute steam cycle. As opposed to waiting for it to start blowing steam. Like I said, subtle, but it seems faster also and somehow more in tune with the routine.

GrinchGrower said: I started doing the pre-boil before capping my PC.
The only reason I do it is because I have been following Spitball's quick rye prep and wanted to stick with the instructions he linked out to here: Pressure Cooking Basics This is the only reason provided:
Quote:
If you just put the lid and the weight on all at once, the jars will heat unevenly and change your PC time. The pressure and heat will build up before the center of the jars get up to temperature.
Right on, just curious. I had always read/heard/whathaveyou about venting it before adding the weight just wasn't is there was some issue or step I was missing about the lid.

Any of you guys have an idea what is this transparent growth on the leading edge of mycelium on agar?

And this one:
The red circled area was transparent before it filled in but it's different looking to the opposite side where the mycelium is white and flows. The red arrows show the transparent growth.
I could see the rhizo structures form on the transparent part before it filled in as white mycelium. What is it? Note: These plates have slightly lower nutes than the ones that the transfers came from.

Remember KIS (keep it simple), usually the simplest set up is the best set up. Presto's are the way to go and the tubs are gonna really help out! Don't get caught up in substrate mixes, 1 gallon boiling water, 1 brick coir to 2qts verm bucket tek style will do you well. A pseudo casing of the same coir/verm is perfect. Bods unmodified tubs make it too simple if you have the environment for it. Modified tubs are just as easy and imo better as you can dial them in proper like for set and forget methods. The lighting isn't too important, you want light, but literally I have one 5000k blue spectrum bulb above everything in my grow space and its perfect. I keep all my cubes between 20-23c in both incubation and fruiting. Hope I helped prevent future overcomplication.

My agar has some weird growth going on as well, this were from a few days ago.
Maybe somebody can chime in

Not sure what it is but in one of the RR videos he says the clear ring outside is contamination and toss the plate.

I just thought it was the "leading edge" of mycelium growing if there were no other obvious signs of contamination...

The white mycelium on the opposite side is "flowing" and has no transparent edge. It's also thicker looking.
