I understand dunking after first flush, but why at birth? It feels unnecessary.
Im testing some atl#7 cakes/pucks by the way
The mycelium consumes a lot of the water content in the substrate during colonization I reckon.

They get drier when they colonize, might as well get them filled to capacity again. Not a requirement, but still a good idea.

Thats what i was thinking. I colonized in a no pour agar container so there wasnt much evaporation if any, plus they colonized in like 10 days.
Ill water them from the top to see if they absorb anything or if it was a waste of time

idk that it's necesarily evaporation, maybe it's consumed. I don't see how a couple hours before putting in a cake chamber is a waste, doesn't set back fruiting times or anything.

Typically with cakes the sub is actually under field capacity if prepped according to the pf tek.
If I remember correctly you bring the verm to field capacity then add brf which would bring it below capacity. You dunk to add back in the necessary water

yes indeed. cakes are damp at best, if they are done at capacity they don't colonize properly

Okey... That makes a lot of sense. It also explains why i had to add water to get it to field capacity
Thanks for answering!
As a side note. I still dont understand why my brf plates get translucent (almost transparent) mycelial growth but cakes and spawn doesnt. Last year i had the same problem, its a mystery

I'm having the same issue with translucency with a specific cube. Spore print was labeled "MA2" I got in a group of prints from a good m8. After germination it expands out and then becomes translucent, even the transfers. I feel like the myc is eating into the agar and colonizing the bottom of the plate but I have no evidence to back this hunch up. Other cubes colonize these plates just fine. It's 1%LME and 8g AGAR.

Its really weird, it almost feels like you are just transferring mold, and then once it hits grains it goes white.
I hate it because its really difficult to see with the naked eye, more so inside the SAB. It makes tranfers a pain in the ass

I am currently going to make up some regular old 10g agar plates, high nutes. See if this changes anything

Sooooooooooooo I....

Finally got my flowhood from Myers!
However.........

The prefilter and hepa filter both have damage due to fuckass Fedex near me. Terrible location that all my packages always seem to go through..
My excitement and disdain are equal.
Question is, will it still work correctly? I contacted Mr. Myers about it waiting for his reply but would like to know if that damage to the hepa in particular will mess up my ability for clean air flow?

That’s fucked. In the second close up you can see where the pleats are ripped. Unfiltered air will pass through there. Mini pleat filters are a bitch to patch. I would request a replacement.

Totally fucked. Hepa filters should only be shipped via freight truck unfortunately this is cost prohibitive but you see the alternative.
I have seen so many filters ruined by fedex/ups. At least 3 that belonged to me lol.

Dude, i have a fence that i built for my dog around the backdoor of my house with no gate. Youd think that the gateless fence alone would be enough to tell them whats up but theres a sign too. Bastards be throwing packages over the fence to make it to the door theyre mostly all tweekers anyways. Helps with the speedy delivery

Lol I deliver for one of those companies. Its hard to give a fuck when you deliver 400 packages per day. Can't tell you how many times I've wanted to set the entire truck on fire.

My plates look very similar to yours, the difference is just that I am stil not sure I am just growing mold or cube-myc.
But its looking even 100% similar to my tissue-transfer-myc. I think this way of growing is maybe a result of too much water and too high humidity in the plate? Never hat this kind of growing before and since I have the condensation-problem my Myc is also growing like this.

Its pretty easy to package them well enough that you could let the worst junkies at fedex or ups handle the filter. Looks like it was quite insufficiently packaged.
