Just a thought. I boiled some potatoes the other night- would it be useful at all to save the water and use it for LC? Just add brf and/or more flakes?

As long as you didn't salt the water you can probably use as is.

...you didn't eat them... they were plenty good by the time I was done with them. Some people add salt when cooking, others don't. Prime example? Pasta

I always salt my pasta in the pot too. With potatoes it depends on what I'm doing with them- in this case I withheld.

According to many sources, full colonisation of the substrate is a major pinning trigger for most species of fungi. But that begs the question: How does the mycelium know/measure when the substrate is fully colonised? Can you even have "full colonisation" in nature? Many species can, in theory, expand infinitely through the soil.

Good question. Part of this is species dependent and part is that I suspect in mycology we don't always mean exactly what we say.
So cubes are kinda shit out into neat packages ideal for their niche. Not likely they would ever need to expand beyond the turd they live in.
But in general I think the full colonization is a pinning trigger thing can be looked at more like "full colonization and/or proper consolidation of the substrate."
The reason I say this is because we have all seen the massive cake or huge unmashed bulk bag that ends up pinning. Now part of that is due to compaction making it hard to colonize etc but, occasionally I have seen bulk bottles that didn't get all the way to the bottoms before the tops pinned, manage to still finish by the time the second flush came up. So obviously the nutes were still available even if not in an ideal manner. Therefor was the main tropisim overridden? I suspect it wasn't. Rather I feel we just understand it in an overly simple manner.

Heyo guys,
I have a question about spore-throwing(?). Normally we should harvest the Shrooms right before the velum(hope its the right word) cracks, to avoid spore-fall at the cake. Easy question - Why are spores at the cake a problem?
~Found nothing with search-function, but I was not that sure how to look up this question haha.

The word is veil.
I personally harvest after the veil breaks but before spores drop, whenever possible. I just do it to prevent a mess and having to clean out my whole fruiting chamber.
I believe an excessive amount of spores may be a hindrance to pin formation, but I don't remember why. People say mushrooms stop producing psilocybin when their veils break, but I've never seen any info on this.

quality control..spores taste like shit, it also may inhibit further growth...also after the veil tares it is pretty much all cell enlargement taking place so pretty much nothing but water weight being added..people talk about the fact that the goodies stop being produced but that has nothing to do with why we suggest harvesting before they eject
