Ya, seems like 100mm would be needed for the room. But my tek is far from good. My plates are a disaster by the time for a transfer.

Change of subject a bit.... Is there going to be a LAGM 2021? I missed out on the last one so anxious to find out. More than happy to start the thread if needed. May take me a bit to figure out the formatting but I'll make it work.

I'm gonna prep me some soft ass agar so moist my RW can't help but germ lol. Have had awful results from my last 20 plates. Gell I even left the APE swab on a plate entirely and nothing but some minor bacteria.

Bacteria need more water than fungi to propagate. Your agar is probably fine

Maybe more nutrition? It was low nute. The APE swab kinda was expected to fail as the accompanying swab had before. As for the RW I used 2 prints and one had been successful in the past so I am a bit disappointed to fail completely. I'm gonna try again with swabs and sterile blades to move the spores over. I suppose I ought to try both soft and firm agar recipes. I will stick with more nutes than less.

Cbk always takes breaks then comes back. I'm sure he'll be in here to start the thread around new years. He's been doin it for years now so I'm sure he wont forget
I wouldnt start one before it's known for sure that cbk isnt coming back.

What does it mean to domesticate a species?
By that I mean, what traits are we looking for to declare it domesticated and how do people going about promoting those traits?

AA+ always gave me oddly fluffy growth. Never saw they typical ropey myc I saw in others but still had good yield and performance.

Aa+ was real fluffy for me too.
I just think of domestication as sort of homogenized consistent results. Or like it’s been bred so many times that it’s now super heavy on genetics that do well indoors.
No idea if that’s correct or not
I just had Melmak spores germ after almost a month. By far the longest I’ve seen spores take. It’s weird one colony popped up about 10 days in and yesterday I noticed like four more tiny ones starting up.

Gotta get some pictures up tomorrow. The growth and speed of these has been intense to say the least. I can't see myself ever going back to a regular monotub. Mudatubs forever.

I shake a colonized WBS jar, lay out 3x 1qt PP5 deli containers. Split the WBS between all three jars leaving about an 1" of WBS still in my jar. My WBS jars are always over 3/4" full.
Pour in enough CVG to make it nearly to the top. Cover and shake. Level the surface off, then take the remaining WBS and make a 1 grain in depth layer over the mixed. Then case with CVG 1 to 1 1/2" thick. Using the bottom of another container I roll it around the sides to compact them to avoid side pins. The mound in the middle left after that gets spread to even out the surface.
The muda-esque containers get colonized fast and due to that layer of WBS at the top under the casing it has a huge, healthy strong and EVEN growth across the surface. It all comes up simultaneously. The WBS/CVG mix underneath it helps to form a network for shuttling nutrients/water. I really think that small top layer of grain under the casing is key to all of this.
15 of these per 84qt monotub drilled in the Pasty EZ dial style, 12 per my smaller monotubs.
I've absolutely fallen in love with the growth that these things are producing and the rate at which they colonize and begin to pin. I'm nearing about 200 muda-esque bottles going concurrently as I got slowed down and zero contamination problems as of yet. I'm loving that if I do get a contamination though I'm most likely only losing 1/15 or 1/12th of the growing matter inside the monotub .
And the best part is I can keep others going to replace any in the montoubs that do go shitty, they just get made and sit on a shelf left to colonize with a few needle holes poked into a lid for GE.
Best decision I ever made.

Cool.. laymixed jars. Dig it. Works well in Tubs too. I’ve actually have 2 laymixed pea+ f1 tubs a few days out from knots that I’m excited for.

it really comes down to strain me thinks. if you can make the surface of the sub even enough the grain layer isn't really beneficial. and some strains benefit from a top layer a lot more than others. if youre getting good results then stick to it but always experiment to make sure. I remember lots of people a while back claiming the grain layer gave better pinsets but Ive never experienced that myself. only reason I mention
