Thanks... it had what appeared to be cobweb at first. Not by my first-timer eyes, but someone experienced basically verified it. I hit the Cobweb spots with H202 and it kinda stalled after that. Haven't seen any other real signs of contam, but it would explain the stalling growth.
If they do come out disfigured / skinny / spearlike, are they still safe to consume?
Thanks again

How exactly did they get ruined? Did all 4 fail in the same manner? Warped bottom? Too much heat? I've been running a presto and 921 on propane for 6 months and both still look brand new. Seeing this I'd like to know more on why PC's fail on propane burners.
On page six of the manual for the induction version of the 21q says that they recommend it not be used on propane because too much heat can soften the metal. The manual also specifically mentions that you shouldn’t use the pc to sterilize mushroom substrate/spawn on pg 4

This is so fucking funny to me... how many people had to blow up they're kitchens before they added that? Lmao

Spawn it or G2G and expand. I like doing 1 into 4 working in a SAB.

I use a electric stovetop for my aa and so far I haven't seen any issues. Just need to know where to dial the burner back to once it reaches 15 psi. Which changes depending on what I'm cooking.

I have my electric stove dialed in for sure. Just under medium at 15psi and it doesn’t even whistle. Just not as cost effective as propane would be for me

Do you know anything about those giant steam sterilizers that run for like 14 hrs at a time? Can someone explain how they work without reaching 250? Or are they no good for grain.

They do longer time with less pressure
Some people sterilize grain at 205 F for nearly 24 hours

My steam sterilizer does atmospheric pressure sterilization for 24hrs and works great.
Planning to build a larger unit though, double boiler style since I dont have a means to use my electric one anymore.
That's only for sub blocks though Ive never run grain in mine. Someone here says theyve had success running grain in theirs but I forget who

Basically, don't crank your lp burner when using a pc made of aluminum alloys. That's pretty common sense I think. I can't speak for other sizes or brands but the 23qt presto manual state 12,000BTU as the limit. I screw on camp burner is usually around 10,000btu but grills can be WELL about that. But like any other cooking process, heat control is key. In the same way you wouldn't watch a pan of oil continue to smoke until it ignites then claim oil is not safe to use in pans.

Since we are on the subject of Pressure cookers.
I sterilize in a 6qt electric pressure cooker, I know the recommended venting is 10 minutes for 22qt canners and thats what i've always done (works like a charm).
But... is it necessary to vent a small PC for that long?
