I've heard others (I forget if it was here on shroomery or elsewhere) complain about etsy vendors advertising APE spore syringes and sending diluted APE LC syringes. I think APEs are not easy to make spore syringes from and some suppliers resort to intentionally sending illegal merchandise instead.

I think that the clear spores from albinos just appear white when in clumps. Like how a pile of transparent salt crystals appears white.

I'm a bit disappointed with how my first go at agar is turning out, but I guess I just need to be patient. One of my plates that I'm trying clones on has a lot of bacterial contamination that I'm hoping the myc can outpace until I'm able to transfer. Another plate I swiped some spores onto is starting slowly and looks like it has some contamination as well.

On the bright side, none of the other plates I poured have shown any contamination, so it looks like 30 mins at 12 psi in my Instapot is enough to sterilize my agar.

Wwttffff there's a strain called Wild Koh Chang?!? That's my favorite island in Thailand!

I need to get a wild print yo!  Next time I'm there I'm going hunting

There are two.... East or West (Andaman or South China Sea?).  I've heard great things about both, but heard that the western one is the more amazing of the two...

Why would your LC be fucked by sterilizing it for an hour? Before you say it’s because of caramelization you should check and see what temp sugars caramelize at (hint, it’s a lot higher than your PC can get).

If this is the case, then can I opportunistically sterilize some agar along with a batch of grain for 1.5-2.5 hours? If there's space in the PC for it anyways?
Thanks.

Well, I use DIY silicone ones because the chinesium ones I bought melted from a torched needle.
Way easier than cracking each jar when doing 80-120 jars.

Easier yes, but also more risky as they are almost certainly not sterile

Ain't that why I move through them with a white hot needle then flame it afterwards?

If plastic lids were an option I'd use them and just one hand crack'n'squirt at my flowhood but Canada, even the cheap ones here ain't cheap and I said before I'd need a few hundred. At Crispmas I'll ask Santy Claus if she'll get me that instead of the Bowflex.

Harvested the first flush from my first monotub - yay!

Not a full canopy, so lots of work to be done, but those were chonky and when cut the stems turned super dark blue.

You can do the same thing with two piece lids.

Especially if you're using a full sfd, they effectively turn two piece lids into single piece lids.

I try not to touch anything thats been sterilized to anything that hasn't. Doing so essentially makes the needle no longer sterile.

All that being said do what works for you. To each their own

Only using 1" SFDs at the moment.
Haven't had any real contamination issues at the moment, around 2% which is borderline acceptable to me. I usually do a run of 100-200 jars or anywhere from 9 to 18 flats of jars at a time which is why I haven't jumped to plastic lids yet because of the volume needed.

Contamination rate last run was a bit higher but the only difference I had there was using double layered paper mp tape for a filter. Not going back to that, my beading felt circles worked much better. Hoping with SFDs contam rate will be 0. I assume the SHIP could also be an issue as you are saying.

I don't mind losing a few jars out of a big run anymore, I just toss them in a few old rubbermaid bins in the garage and if anything survives come next year I'll throw them all in a trench breaking the jars and cover it with horse shit and straw.

I tried plastic lids a few times. More trouble than they are worth ime/o my life was changed for the better when I moved to full sfds. Less likely to fail than modified ones and plastic ones

I had the opposite experience. Making the switch to plastic lids with full sfd was life changing. Idk if its just the water I have here, but my metal rings would rust to the point of being unusable (a less than quarter inch turn was the difference from an open and closed lid) after 4-5 cycles.

I just love how clean they look.

These aren't modified SFDs as far as I can tell. Could be don't know, got them from a contact given to me by my genetics guy.

I've been keeping an eye on these things too.
https://www.amazon.com/Synthetic-Stickers-Diameter-Mushroom-Cultivation/dp/B07WHFXJFV/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=synthetic+filter+disk&qid=1606239797&sr=8-2

Self adhesive is cool beans it looks like the material my tyvek paint suit is made out of.

RR says plastic deforms over time so that's also been a hesitation. Ideally in a perfect world I'd just use 1 piece metal lids but finding them is a fuck for a decent price.

Full SFDs from suppliers in Canada/will ship to Canada always look inexpensive until I multiply them by 300-500, then.. not so much.

I haven't had rust issues until I tried MP, I'm not sure what chemical reaction took place there but something heavily oxidized my rings and lids. I was still using lids/rings from back in February that must have gone under 10-20 PC cycles with no issues and then bam. The tape went seriously fucky too. Not sure if it's something in our local water + the vinegar or what.
