Harvested my first bag of albinos. 344g wet off of 2/3 of a quart WBS and 1 1/2 quarts of CVG.
I couldn't be happier with the results here. So much easier than a shoebox when it comes to maintenance, a lot less attendance needed over the course of the grow.

About 16 days from spawning took awhile. It was supposed to be PE6 but they look like AA+ so I don't know what happened there. I'm using LC so who knows. No spores or maybe just clear spores dropped, pure white flesh.
Substrate was misted with water containing BTI bacteria so perhaps yields could have been more but I was paranoid about gnats getting in and laying eggs back then.

Well 500 petris arrived today, I really hadn't give much thought to how many this is! Maybe it's small fry to some here, but 25 stacks of 20 perits is more than I though.
Should be sorted for a while. Running out of parafilm though and my order got delayed

Some of you won't like this thought, so warning!! Danger!!!!
I love small single burner hot pads, like the ubiquitous proctor silex.
It has such an overly cautious thermostat on it that it is nearly useless. I own an older single burner from the 1970's and when set on high, it on.... all the time. both are 1000 watts.
So I want to buy a variable outlet control that cycles power without a thermostat, much like an oven stove knob... then hard wire the silex to always on to it.
What would such a thing be called?

this might work.

Just be careful doing that keep an eye on it if u do it I've had those cheap hotplates and most of the time they make them so they dont heat up very hot for a reason u might melt the shit out of one and cause a fire Cadco hotplates work but r rediculous expensive also propane burners work good propane is cheap and powerful as hell they heat up way faster than electric

My current method is to use my kitchen cooktop to do the heavy heating, then move them to hotpads when they need less heat. But I hate moving 250psi PC's.
And I know that these little hotpads can do it, and won't overheat with a HUGE heat sink just above them.

The slowest of my jars are finally approaching 100% completion a week or so after the initial shakes. Is there any way to confirm that all the grains I can't see are colonized and ready to be spawned, or is total surface coverage generally an indicator that jars are good to go?

What you're doing is quite literally moving a bomb. Be insanely careful doing that, I only do it if I need to make dinner now

Yea after seeing shit like this I wouldn't even consider it. Watching it in slow motion it looks like it gives towards the bottom but it's hard to tell.
Was tough getting 2 pcs and a sterilizer going after watching that.

Reading up on the use of sand in subs
Seems to me it should at most, require a pasteurization. Is there any particular things to be mindful of when using and heat treating sand? Using the same thing they use in children's playgrounds

I've never worked with sand but I would imagine that it's going to absorb and retain heat a lot more efficiently than grain or anything like that, so I'd watch for that

Damn mush straight to the point. I mean if you feel like you need to pasteurized a rock then throw it in the oven at 400 degrees... Seems good enough I mean your not killing anything helpful if you ask me it's just powered courts and other minerals. Not like It has microbes I don't think..
