Might add some verm and sand for texture. Check out Mycolorado's tamp casing project. try it side by side with a Peat casing and teach the boards which works better

They shouldn't if you have filters on your ge ports. I still pull them the second I see something and I've had shit go awry but in theory it should keep shit both out and in

Ge ports? And what kind of filters? Is their a good tek for this?
Last time I tried horse oats whatever tek I used sucked, everything got contam and died. I switched to uncle bens (I know everyone hates this) but I want to expand my boundaries. I grabbed 12 mason jars and 50 lb of rye berries.
If you could suggest me a good tek for hydrating rye berries, safely injecting spores into the jars, and adding the filter I’d appreciate it. Trying to take this to the next step.
Also, can I use micro pore tape instead of filter on said jars?

I'm not familiar with Mason jar lids as I run ziplocs. But yeah micropore tape works.

Yeah I've been using it doubled up and it's been fine. Hate removing it though time after time. I'm going back to beading felt from the fabric store which I've used forever with hardly a problem. 1x1 meter sheet of it for $10. It's polyester fiber (poly-fil) that's been melted down with a hot roller of some kind.

I like it because it holds up to multiple PC runs well and when I do need to switch it off it peels right off with the silicone. Micropore tape works but I find it messy after PC so this is another option.

Dumb question I'm running ATL #7 about to start prepping grains ivvread that they need to be more on the wet side? How do you prep them. Iv read that people prep them and pc them then leave it for a week to see if any contams rise. Idk never done these figured it was easy just knock up the jar with agar wedges and lock it in a closet for a few months and forget about it then check back in 2 months and clean them?

Yup

I just did em like normal. Grains had enough water to sit for 3months, make stone, colonize and fruit and make more stones in the substrate.

Iv honestly looked around and haven't seen much even advanced searched. Seen where somebody grew in bags one time and got some giant stones. I don't remember the user's name but he posted pictures even though they've been removed. what sucks about all these old search forms is there's no more pictures hardly and some of the information is really old. Seems like everybody grows stones out of qt. mason jars but I've heard of a few people using bags.
On a fun note I'm tubs are pining only 1 looks good the rest are looking ok. Hopefully more pins form. I turn the fan off in the room since it was drying my sub out way to fast. Even with wet af substrate.

Hi a first attempt at monotubs and would love some advice (sorry if this is not the right forum for this post).
I have tried to do two tubs simultaneously with coco coir and vermiculite.
I am now into the third week of colonisation so am a bit concerned that it is going too slowly. At least no apparent contamination yet... My first question is about condensation, both tubs have quite a bit (I feel like when I remove lids the drops will fall all over the substrate). But one tub seemed to be 'wetter' and spreading slower than the other. From the pic of both does this look like too much moisture (if possible)? The top one is actually the dryer one, and obviously has lots of water droplets on the lid...

The Wet Tub:

The wetter tub has had an extra day. It kind of looks like it has colonised from the photos, but I think this is because of how much exudate or water droplets are sitting on the surface of the substrate. I suspect the bulk substrate was slightly above field capacity. Maybe hard to tell from images, but looks like lots of exudate, but the substrate surface has hardly gone white (it was a top layer not mixed). I am concerned that colonisation may have stalled... outside the black bag there is a pool of water... I actually removed sealing tape from the lid and replaced a few gaffa tape holes with micropore to see if it would dry a little... I know this risks entering 'fruiting' conditions early but is that fatal? Any tips for getting colonisation going? Can I open and dry surface? Or too risky?
Tub 2:
This tub seems to be doing better. It is now on day 15 but I haven't noticed much change for a few days. Still quite a bit of dark substrate visible, but to me it seems like the mycelium has spread over it more consistently (if finely) I have not removed any taping so it is still sealed. Could it be ready for fruiting?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Especially for the slower tub, which i may have messed up... Both tubs hav water pooling under the plastic, is it worth trying to drain this away by drilling through? This would no doubt make all the droplets fall...
