Got a question for anyone else fruiting in bags. It's fairly difficult to see the top of the substrate itself so how do you check your surface conditions? Are you opening the bag to see?
Finding this part difficult right now.

If any of the Canadian crowd is reading this Petsmart has their Thrive Coir bricks on for 8.95 for 3x 650g bricks. Right beside the EE. Save some bucks etc.

Right? I can't imagine the energy some of you guys have with the non-stop mycology work. I sit on here A LOT. This is my social media. I sleep 5 hours a day and I'm unemployed, but I still can't imagine finding the time to do hundreds of pours...

Yeah idk how this test run is going to go 20 5lb bags knocked up 2 strains a piece... Millet... Texas oc, Rusty white, pan cyan, z strain 4 bags MS 5ML each bag, golden halo, x7x, APE, and I think one other I don't remember.... Fml boy o boy that's a hell of a lot. Btw just wondering how long does it take to colonize 5lb bags with 8 small agar wedges a piece? I used about a 1 1/8 cut up square. I usally use LC in Qts then half a qt in each bag.... Trying something new this time because LC takes freaking forever to take hold for me.
I heard that straight wedges go faster since they don't have to reform?

See I don't see how any of this takes so long with the right setup it's easy and not that hard to do.
I mean grain is set and forget.
Agar for me I can pour 100 pasty cups in about a hour and a half regular plates about 50 in a hour. I can't run 600ML of agar in my insta pot and have ready to pour in a hour and 30 mins then it takes me a hour to pour 50 plates and seal.
Substrate is easy with bucket tek.... I mean 6 buckets at a time boil water and you can easily do 18 tubs in a day relaxing.
And everyone's favorite part!!! Harvest!!! Damn electric knife and buzz buzz done in 3 mins per tub especially with the whole bag is a liner. Pull it up and your all set!

Maybe it's just an experience thing? I got into agar in June after my first successful harvests in March lol. If you've been at this as long as your account has been registered then I think you got quite a bit of experience on me lol. I'm the first to admit that I'm slow, clumsy and bad

Lol I'm a about the same I used to be only difference is I'm more stream line this go around stuff is more setup right I have a 25x that stays running and a flow hood. Also these great people in this form are so much more helpful compared to the beginning. When I started we were keeping dark rooms and polyfil everything.
I mean agar was not a easy task back then. The knowlage was way harder to find and most wrong. We didn't have amazon prime back then where we could order plates and everything and have it in a few days.
I can remember going to every grocery store in 50 miles searching for rye....
We are truly blessed on how far this community has grown!
I bet most older member's remember having to fan and mist there tubs every chance they get only to have a mild pinset. Now we have pasty tubs, bod tubs, shoeboxes galore!

A test run is a shoebox or 2, not dozens of 5lb bags

Depends who ya are I mean 2 bags each 5lb bags?? So two tubs each.... That's a good test run. I mean running a shoe box then going to mono can give different results while running one mono you only get one result while running two you have something to compare.. am I wrong?
Plus when you have the room and the coir and everything else is fruiting then why not go ahead and get the next batch ready
a shoe box is gonna take a month and a half from start to finish. Mono add a extra week or two. Plus I don't run shoe boxes. I'm a 66qt type of gal.

Just seems like a waste of materials to throw at an unknown culture. I can make 5 shoeboxes with the same amount of spawn as one tub.
Thats 5 times the sample size with the same material as a single tub

Today seems to be my day of questions.
Once I've soaked, boiled, dried, then jarred my rye, how long can it rest in the jar before PCing?
I think I preped more rye than I need today and don't want to overfill my jars, or throw it out. I can't fit many jars in my PC. So am hoping I can jar it and leave it out while the first batch PC. It would probably have to sit in the jar for 2-2.5 hours before I could PC it.
Iv left mine fore 2 days no issues. I wouldn't suggest it though your safe to wait a day or two.
It will likely mold in the jar. If u have to wait between prepping and pcing leave it spread out and stir it around every once in a while. Otherwise mold will form. Be sure to smell check the grain. If its super funky i would toss it but if it smells reasonably ok go ahead and use it

Pulled 1400g wet from my best tub. Not a complete canopy but hoping to get there soon. The other 6 flushed between 800-1100g wet which I was a bit disappointed in, I’m definitely far from the 1oz per quart of spawn baseline but all tubs had some bacterial problems and whatnot so I’m pretty happy they put out what they did.
Am I risking some serious potency loss or degradation keeping some of these in the fridge for a day or two before dehydrating? Need to get another dehydrator the one I have now can’t really keep up.
Gonna update the grow log once I get some time and I have some nice looking GT clones as well as some RW and TOC T1 plates coming in nicely so I’m pretty hyped to get those going.
Mush love

Starbones—I just wanna shout out some thanks for documenting your misadventures with the fungus gnats. I've also been battling an outbreak, and I just ordered some BTI per your advice. I totally wouldn't have found that stuff otherwise, everything else marketed for gnats is just a repellent (like neem oil, peppermint, etc).
My issue is definitely coming from a neglected houseplant, and while I'm not nearly at the point of having to spray the bacteria on my subs, it's great to know it won't affect the cubes.
