In peoples defense they were exceptionally massively passively aggressive. Human trichoderma. Hope all went well in the ER.
Streaked six plates with Melmak today and the sixth got the end of the swab left in it. Excited as a racoon on meth.

Can you use elastic bands to hold bags closed in the PC? My bottom bags seem to be picking up moisture. Trying to keep the tops up and the filters out of water. I set my base on mason jar lids and filled to line in PC. Bottom inch or two of the lower bags sit in water but the filter and opening are well above. Thoughts? Wet T shirt? Elastics?
Thanks.

So many months ago I bought some sort of bran to mix into hwfp. I think it’s the wrong stuff but I’m hoping it’s just in pellet form.
Does this look remotely right? There was a disgusting amount of bugs in all stages of life in this junk.

Might be the right stuff. All the bran I’ve gotten is more in flaky/powdery form though.
Wet towels is what I use. I also use packing tape and wrap the bags up tight and then tape the whole flap with the packing tape. Then roll the bags in a wet towel like this.

This is before the cook (masters mix but I do all the same even grain)

Here is some bulk bags for pans after the cook. You can let them sit out after no problem unsealed and they will be fine because after the cook the plastic gets sucked tight to the contents. Also I use packing tape for the injection ports and it is still perfectly stuck to the bag after the cook.

Edit: also I put a pot lid on top of the bags during the PC cycle just in case(they never have not once) but in case one did decide to unravel and inflate to clog the pressure release. Always be safe ladies and gents.

Cool yeah the pictures I remember seeing for masters mix was more like flour. It’s still nutes so I’m sure it’ll work.
I just made up a few little tupperwares with various mixes of hwfp, brf, bran, and coir. Hwfp are gonna get king oyster lc and the coir are getting my year old syringes. Figured might as well do an anniversary grow on some experimental stuff.

Thanks a lot for this.... Are your filters not exposed, or can I just not see them in the photos? Maybe that's my fail, as I've had them exposed and I'm just trying to keep them out of the water. Everyone told me bags were a pain in the ass. Why am I surprised that they're a pain in the ass?!?!? Seeing as I bought 1000 unicorn bags, I've got some to practice with......
I think I'll try the tape. I was also thinking of rubber bands, but haven't heard much about them. I run a presto 23. With the wet towels, do you adjust your water volume at all? Cheers.

Those look like the soy pellets I use for masters mix and they do sell bran pellets so I’m sure those should be just fine.
Also the packing tape I’m talking about using is the clear packing tape. I wrap the filters facing into the bag so no there never exposed. And nope just wet towels and water line below the grate.

Ya, there was some killer bag grows in the mak thread just the other day.
A nope, negative on that. I've got 0.5 micron because they were going to be spawn bags. I can rig something up. I see they do sell the 3B/10B and such with a 5 micron. If need be I can do the 1" tube with light polyfil in the neck and just poke a couple little holes near sub level with a hot paperclip.

T2 or T3 usually, but I grain a lot of T1s too. Really as soon as I’ve got clean myc. I haven’t messed around with extensive transfers so idk if it makes much difference but I’ve gotten good results with the early plates.
I actually transfer more with clones cuz I’m trying to get consistent growth out of them.

as soon as the myc looks ok and my sterile technique is dialed in to the point where I'm not plopping a bunch of satellite colonies left and right.
