Oh for fucks sakes. Cocksucking rotten flying motherfuckers. Pulling my hair out, testing my LCs, my spawn on agar. Going through everything again and again. Using up grain masters of things from earlier in the year and it's possible that my mold issues are coming from the little bastards? I nearly have them knocked down 100% with ACV+Soapwater bowls but that explains so much then.
What do they do, take some mold on their bodies with them wherever they go and bring it from tub to tub or do their corpses mold when they die? Rotten flying bastards.

Every "animal" is teaming with microbes and through daily activity they create the biome they need to survive. Insects especially are natures way of spreading fungi and bacteria and nematodes and other shit. Just a bunch of little bugs shitting and fucking and puking and dying everywhere. I'm sure even their eggs are covered in organisms.
Toss a fruit fly carcass in a petri dish and see what grows...lol
Good luck with those little fuckers.
Just play some david bowie. The spiders from mars should take care of them in a jiffy.
On a more practical note maybe try adding some Diatomaceous Earth powder to your sub, or just take a week off from having open mycelium around and clean your space.
If you poke a hole in a jar lid and put an inch of apple cider vinegar in the jar the flies will go in there and die en mass. Works very well.

Yeah I've got ACV bowls with water and soap that they were dying in. I've only seen a few since I started using them before that my monotub lids were covered in their carcasses. I've thrown out all monotubs now and will be hosing down everything with fungicide.. again.
I guess when I was hospitalized and I had 40 tubs start to rot and mold because I was unable to tend to them the house filled with them. Looks like the battle is being won but I'll start adding diatomaceous earth to my sub for awhile. No monotubs for a bit will give it a week and let grow bags colonize to be fruited elsewhere.
Little bastards eh? Weird there's so little threads on them being a contam vector for molds only saw Pastywhyte mention it in a 4 year old thread. Thanks man. Here's hoping this is the tonic for the problem. Between this and going back to EcoEarth coir AND going back to boil treating in a cooler instead of warm water here's hoping I get back to being up to my neck in dry fruits.

I just finally got them in under control. Went to a screwtop compost container for the kitchen, bought a trashcan with a good lid, started taking the trash out 2x a day, put yellow cards and fly tape everywhere, put vinegar/soap dishes out, eliminated most of my indoor plants, and went back to using peppermint oil in my spray bottle. Two years of this madness on and off and FINALLY got them under control. Can't reccomend peppermint oil enough. The cheap shit from the Walmart pharmacy/personal care section is 5 bucks and a couple drops to 500ml in a bottle makes all the difference to deter them from the tubs. Never had an overt contamination problem from them but when they started showing up in my tubs I knew what was bound to happen. Just the sight of those fuckers disgusts me...
And I second this practical advice. Definitely this and peppermint oil and vinegar traps...

Yer days are numbered now you flying motherfuckers. Fungus gnat killer.

Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis is go. It says 100 granules per m2 when treating standing water outside so I figure a sprinkle on top of newly spawned substrate and then a decent misting. Repeat on the regular until they're gone gone gone.
Between this, moving grow rooms, switching back to EcoEarth and switching back to boiling water in the bucket tek I feel confident that hopefully this is the end of my bullshit. If after all of this there's no progress I am renting a hotel room and running an ozone generator in the house for 24 full fucking hours.
If after that I'm giving up the hobby for a few months.

Some years ago I read someone saying (I think it was a TC) that there's a kind of paper that is perfect for taking prints. Can't for the life of mine remember what it was. Anyone knows what I'm talking about?

Hey guys, been a minute. I'm about to get back in it, just waiting on jars to come in the mail.
It's been a long ass time since I've done pf tek and I had a pc at the time. I think I remember somewhere that you can use regular ole glasses in a pinch, can anyone confirm? All my pots have a small vent hole, is it gonna be an issue for steam sterilization?
I have a glass top stove, and very limited space so I don't plan on getting back into agar and bulk methods.

You should be fine I'd think, you can always put some duct tape over the little hole.
I have a different kind of qurstion:I took a little break from mush cult to work on my cannabis growing skills, and I ended up using a sprayer on my few tubs that had a super small amount of organic pot nutes mixed in. Should it be a problem?

True, I didn't think of that, granted I'm still a little fried from tripping last night lol.
It should be fine as long as your sub is healthy and fully colonized

The only time I ever had gnats they were specifically in my melmak totes and i never ever found a single gnat in any other totes that I had going at the time. Not sure what that means but I thought I might share anyways.

After coming here and doing my research I’m done fucking around w/ uncle bens, I got a monotub going right now and enough rice bags for 1 more round but I’ve wasted so much damn money with this shit.
What’s a good tek for hydrating/sterilizing some rye berries? I already got the jars from a failed horse oats, could never get that shit to work for me.

I'm not saying it's the only fault to this method, but these fucking uncle Ben's rice grains are sopping wet at the bottom of the bag. I'm wondering if I should have microwaved it beforehand

I think the spores are just clear with albino varieties. Leucistic varieties have colored spores though

True, but also albinos tend to not (really) drop spores either. I have seen that at least a couple people have gotten really light prints, though. Invisible but still usable. Heres some Syzygy I was working with that produced many spores, just didn't drop them. Albinos seem to be the same way.

Aren't albinos known for having a much lower spore count too. I was under that impression, hence what I said. I've got 3 albinos going atm, 2 on agar one on grain so I'll find out soon enough. Gonna admit, most of the reason I got them was cus less mess, so here's hoping.
