Damn 2 days? That's a long fucking time. I use a cheap Presto, I don't know how much fresh it will hold but if I have it full I can pull 3 ounces of cracker dry out of it in around 6-8 hours. You must have disconnected the heating element or something?

I'm pretty ashamed to show you this... I know I need to get something better. I'm using 2 light bulbs as the heat source with 2 pc fans blowing the air out.
Locally I can get the 9 tray Excalibur for $625, that's how much it sells for in this country, pretty ridiculous. I could import it for $200, but haven't concluded which one to get...
Any tips on how I can improve my current dehydrator in the mean time? I suppose a different heat source?

what the hell? lol
I build my own cabinet with a space heater for drying. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, but it should hold about as much as three 9 tray excaliburs. Cost me about $250 in materials

Damn, I like your ingenuity, but my $39 Presto works pretty well. Thinking about getting a second one though cause I usually have to run it around the clock when it's harvest time. I can see it taking so long though with your fruits packed in there together. My presto has eight trays, I could buy more trays but I think it would be better to just get second one, hell it's only $39. Never heard of a $625 food dehydrator, is that bad boy a commercial gig?
Okay I just googled the Excalibur and it came up as a 9 tray Excalibur, but damn the thing only sells for $125 at Walmart, guess you don't have a Walmart.
As far as modifying yours to be better you probably need to set up to have different levels, like trays. That way the fruits are seperate doing in layers so air goes around all sides of the fruits. I don't know how much heat yours puts off but layering the fruits would be a quick easy fix that would help a lot.

Yeah there's no Walmart around here, closest one is within flying distance. I appreciate your help. I'll have to make another plan when my Penis Envy tubs are ready in the next 2 weeks...

A baking rack with shelves can be converted to a dryer easily. I think you can get a cover also for 'proofing dough"...

thats fucking insane.
go to a goodwill/thrift shop. (if in the US/canadia)
ok just noticed the odd location you live in... still fucking insane. mine was 5.49 usd and can dry a 1/4 lb. i do 24hours. im sure some fruits are done in 6 but big meaty bastards need a long ass time to be truly cracker dry. you cant over dry shrooms anyway
or do this.

See how those shrooms are all together in one thick layer? That may be why it takes so long to dry. Can you separate them out into a couple of layers?
I love my five tray Excalibur, highly recommend. It might be worth the $200 bones to import a nine tray if you use it for other things besides just drying cubes. I make fruit leather with mine, dry porchini and chants for winter, can even make jerkey. The temp control is tits, gives it a wide range of tasks it can perform.

Finally getting around to making more agar plates.
Have some clone plates I need to transfer from, and some Texas Yellow Cap pins I need to transfer. Also plan to inoculate 3 or 4 plates with a wedge of 5th transfer KSSS, let them grow out, use half a wedge per jar x6 jars.
Smoking weed will really slow you down if you let it.

Just cloned up my first Shiitake yesterday..."Snowcap"...Stoked. Been growing them for 3 plus years, but had no agar skills...Feeling grateful for all the learning that happens here.

You could grab the filamentous stuff between 1:00 and 3:00. Like a cm or two in front of the myc "under" the agar. It couldn't hurt, it's fast. Pins aren't sterile unless invitro off clean myc, so maybe something.. I've never had a pin drop do that tho.
