Its a 6qt shoe box. I left the lid snapped shut and put it under a 6500k fluorescent light on a 12/12 cycle. It's the only tub out of 8 that looks like its gonna have this many side pins. It's also the only tub that I've opened every other day for no reason other than I just wanted to look at it. The temperature in the area falls to about 68ยฐF and then comes up to about 75ยฐF every day.

Eh side pins in shoeboxes arent nearly as a pain as a mono. Put your hand on the sub or canopy and turn it upside down and slide the container off the top. Then can harvest without dealing with the container.

I'm not worried about it. They all taste the same. Just think it looks ugly. The other 7 tubs are starting to knot up. This culture was much faster than the rest.

Beauty is it's own argument and logic, something I found to be even more true after I accepted the link between beautiful mycelium growth, and the spawn being axenic.
What looks good, is good, to a great degree, in the shroom hobby. And so patently untrue - in so many other situations that we touch, moving between life-to-death in western society. Perhaps the very same dissapointments that in some way lead to people seeking the release of psilocybin and the cultivation of the carrier fruit.
Ironically, a low of standards to determinate behaviour, "getting high", is the exception to the rule, hidden by a beautiful fruit..
As fruits can look good without being high in active content.
Thus beauty can still betray a weak fruit, but otherwise in the cultivation, good looks indicating good function, holds up to a noticable degree.
What looks good, is good.

Has anyone noticed any lack of performance in cultures taken straight from the fridge and put to grain? I've never done it before. I generally take a fresh transfer and then go from that.

So I need some advice about reducing mushrooms down to a more compact form.
Currently I use a vacuum sealer after drying 100% and then toss them in the freezer. Works great however I have recently been very successful in my grows and my freezer is at max capacity.
I've read some people grind them up and just store as dust in jars but that seems like it would kill potency after awhile.
I just bought a Capsule-It machine and will be doing that here soon making .5 caps with 00 gelatin capsules but just curious if anybody else has any good method to reduce a pile to a smaller space.
I want to keep on growing I just don't want to run out of space to put them

I had the same problem and have been grinding them up and filling canning jars adding a couple of desiccant bags. I can not detect any loss of potency at 6 months. Of course that is subjective and a limited test so far.
I do think that a glass jar with a sealed lid that can keep canned vegetables for years is a lower risk than the permeable capsule halves. At least over time, I would think that the jar would be more effective for storage than the capsules. Again, this is just conjecture.

I was going to make probably about 1000 caps with the 00 gelatin capsules and at .5 in each one that would be 500 dry grams which I would store in airtight jars with desiccant packs. I just don't have many posts in which people have kept caps for more than a year or so.
I would hope they would last at least 3-5 years like that if kept in right conditions?
And yeah Munch it's a machine for filling gelatin capsules with supplements (or mushrooms) and it's called the Capsule-It. It can fill 100 caps in about 8-15 minutes depending how quick you are with it. I'm excited to start using it.

Good luck getting half a gram in a double zero... my best was .4g... usually closer to .33g on Aug.
As far as long term storage, never kept anything around long enough to know...

How is tea compared to eating them?
I once thought it would be cool to grind up a bunch of shrooms and mix it with a melted chocolate bar. My two friends and I got really damn sick off it. My wife was watching some chick flick that had Betty White in it and I remember thinking she was the devil. She was taking on a pale orange color and her eyebrows were getting all pointy. Funny cause Betty White is probably the nicest old lady in the world.
If I'm seeing lots of knots and pinning at the edges of my tubs and not so many if any at all in the center, is it because the edges are getting better FAE or is it because the substrate is wetter at the edge? I ask this because the walls have a lot of condensation that drips down onto the sub.

Oh god what the fuck oh god.
I just opened my bag of whole wheat kernels and I was pouring them into my bucket to rinse and before I hit them with the water there was these weird clumps off fucking wheat. I picked one up and it was sticky so I tried to pull it apart and it's a fucking larva of some kind. Meal worm? What the fuck over.
What the fuck I touched it and it fucking moved and FUUUCK.
How do I get these bastards out of there? Is this even worth using or should I tell the grain mill I want my shit replaced. I can't imagine cleaning all these fuckers out is ARGH FUCK it's so gross.

I mix it with orange juice. It tastes like good ol OJ. Why people decide to take a big gulp of yummy warm shroom juice I will never understand.

Even packing both sides of the caps I also average .33 for 00s.
I went through a phase of grinding and capping them every day to save space, havenโt eaten any and theyโve gotta be six months old by now probably time to check those out.
You guys all need to drink a cup of cactus tea so you can appreciate the smooth mild flavor of shroom water.
