Is this before or after PC? That's about how my oats have been looking after PC. I just wait a day or so before PC. I put about 500mL of oats in the jars and a day later they absorb the rest of the moisture in the jars and end up being closer to 600mL. I left home for a business trip and my jars looked like this.

We'll see how they look when I get back home in a week.

This was after PC, standing by on the shelf for when my agar is finished culturing.

How much longer until your agar is ready? Following advice from reputable members, I just use a piece of myc thats nickel-quarter size in diameter. After the myc latches onto a few oats and gets to about dime size, I shake the jar and try to distribute the myc even more. Repeat the process until there lots of colonized oats throughout the jar and wait until its 100% colonized. Then, I'll shake it one last time and if it recovers, it'll be spawned.

If you're just putting in a wedge I wouldn't bother shaking before it's at 25% colonized.  Trying to shake it before that isnt super effective in my experience and doesnt speed things up much at all.

Even bulk growing I'm really appreciating jars to bags. I just find it so much clearer to see mycellium and check on it with jars. As of right now I have 32 flats of 12 jars, so 388 jars.

The bags are nice but the condensation and the "crinkly" effect from PCing makes it hard for me to see clearly what's going on inside and when I do get a contamination it feels shitty to lose 4 full quarts vs say 1 jar.

I also like the look of shelf after shelf of colonizing jars and the genetics resting on grains as masters in my beer fridge.

Am I alone here in my preference? I know I can fit 16 full quarts in my PC but I run it for 3 hours and with heating up and cooling down I can get 20 mycoquarts done in the same time so jars do feel more efficient overall.

Your experience is what keeps me from switching to bags, as well as not having a flowhood..  I also enjoy that it is less wasteful vs bags.

Does a 23qt pc fit only 4-ish bags in it?

1 pc cook in a 23qt presto with bags can make 6 full tubs if I already have masters in a 3-3.5hr cook.

I can fit 10 jars in a 23qt in a 2 hr cook which makes 2 tubs.

6 tubs or 2 tubs.... I like bags

Yeah that does sound pretty damn great lol! For months now I have been considering modding my SAB by essentially extending the roof on it so it can do bags...I should just fuckin go for it and see what happens.

If youโ€™re gonna do that and have spare room you might as well build a new one out of plexi. Then you can have one for preparing plates and one to do work in

Those Calliphoridae look like the common housefly here which I guess is because there's 1,200 species of Callis.. I don't get them indoors but I get them outdoors and they're a right pain in the ass because I can't swat them they're too fast. I hate all insects in general though but I especially find flies that puke on their food to eat it especially disgusting. That and when they rub their little hands together like they've got some grand scheme in the works.

yeah good luck swatting them. its like their only defining trait, thats its close to impossible to hit em. I once caught fire to my SAB trying to deal with one that was annoying my transfers

I have a strain of PEU that reverted back to a normal looking B+ hybrid. Shit happens when phenotypes start dominating.
