Talking about millet... I was going to buy millet today but bought wheat instead because the lady at the feed store said it was hulled millet, is hulled millet bad?

Prepping millet smells like you are cooking pancakes. It's quite pleasant.
I second that.
When I prepare rye it smells like you heated a bowl of cereal in the microwave imo

Good choice you want the millet to have the hull on it still otherwise you'll end up with a big mushie mesh (not the good way).

Looks about how mine did when I preped them. They hold a shit ton of moisture.
Pure millet never looks 100℅ colonized IME.
Jar always looks like it needs 2 more days
Edit: mushboy did you do and soak and simmer for it?

I loved rye for years and years. But then my supplier fucked me twice. So I went hunting and found a great deal on clean (cleaner than my organic rye) millet ($22/50lbs) and wheat ($12.50/50lbs) and haven't looked back. Breaks up nicely

Dam.. that sounds awful.
I remember you saying you tried foomans before.. with wbs but try it with just millet just shorten the time slightly 10~mins then just fingernail test it (see if it pops when u apply pressure between finger and fingernail) if its difficult more time if it pops pull it out.
For my first few times doing a no soak no simmer I check about ever 5 minutes after 30 mins until I got my timing down (times vary for different grains)
Good luck no soak no simmers are awesome no being a "slave to the grain"
Oh if you have a probe thermometer I pour my temps at 200-205°f~ when it done it's usually about 160 I've seen. I don't know if that would help but it's a good guess.

How easy is it to use spawn bags instead of jars for rye? I want to make a lot of spawn but don't want to end up with too many jars. I only do agar -> g2g, no lc, so I would have to g2g a quart to a bag. Is it way more contam prone than with jars only?

It's tricky G2G bags if you only have an SAB. People have done it of course but for me LC is easier with bags in a SAB. If you have a hood fill yer boots.

Is it easier too to prep grain bags than grain jars? I already have an impulse sealer and spawn bags that I bought on craigslist, but I'm deadly scared of contams, I had a very bad experience with a dirty glc. I also have a pretty big flowhood

GLC by definition is going to have a lot of bacteria in it. Bags are not harder, just different.

ive found g2g/b2b a lot easier if the receiving bag/jar is larger then the master. makes to pour a lot easier. all my master jars are regular mouth
