every time i've tried a no-simmer tek with millet or milo, the top of the jars (and especially the bags) would dry out and not colonize. i've even tried hot 24 hour soaks and the top still dries out. simmer is the only way it works for me.
tedsdead, milo is the best way better than WBS because you don't have random bits of sunflower seeds and corn. i like using a single grain type that way half of it isn't undercooked while the other half is overcooked.

Is it worth switching from oats to millet or wbs?
I love how simple stupid oats are and I've had good luck but if there is superior performance to be had I'm all for it.

Stick with whats working for you. But they all work great if they are prepped right

Pretty sure Tweeq was also referring to these.
They're basically the same type of jar the food industry uses for things like pickles and what not. They are great for myco too.
Yes Josex those are what we have. We order them from a shop that supplies honeybee keepers. That way we can have a lot of identical jars.
Like Josex said, they are perfect for culting
When we just began culting we used any pasta sauce jar, or mayo or jelly jars
Edit: added pic of how I do my one piece lids

Is that a poly/micropore kind of combo?
Poly by itself is some really hot shit, you just have to do it nice and tight. I used to change the poly whenever I prepped a new batch of grain until I realized it was a dumb thing to do because you can actually reuse it many times. I've got some lids with poly that hasn't been changed in more than a year.
Yes it's a combo of poly and mp tape. It's probably overkill but these lids also stay in use for over a year.
Had some troubles before, when I used poly only, some not tight enough, few contamed. I like the look and they work for dozens of pc sessions and hey, a grower needs to have his signature methods right

I tried millet once, can't remember what I did to prep it. Either it came out dry as a bone or a total wet mess of burst grain. It was also a Royal mess to prep so I gave it up pretty quickly. Would be willling to try again if I see some of you guys post a cool tek.

I’ve been doing no prep wbs that’s almost all millet by adding about 40% as much water as seed. So like a full half pint jar of millet and a little less than half the jar of water.
Seems to be good so far as long as it’s not cooked forever.

Yeah I just soak it for 24 hours. You can use things like Frank's tek but soaking for 24 hours cuts out literally all of the guess work. Perfectly hydrated every single time with no question
