Did you use less agar than normal?

I used the higher nute recipe I typically use, 8g agar 8g lme to 750 h2o. It just looks so much different than my t1 plates, with a simular recipe. The t1s were 8g agar and 7g lme to 750ml h2o. The growth as faint as it appears is very uniform its just shiny like it looks wet. The wedge looks wet as well. Either way I prepared some brf cake's that ill shoot some spores into tonight, see if I can get a clone out of the syringes.

Carbon from the scalpel, and yea it looks wet. Definitely not suppose to look wet. It was an old blade that I was using, typically I only use the blades one or twice but the scalpel was PCed before use.

I've got my first round of bags in the PCs right now, and i'm stoked as fuck. I thought i was only going to be able to fit 4 bags per presto, i was able to fit six 4.5lb bags! Anywho, i'm not looking forward to noccing them up though. I'm going to stand my SAB up on it's side, but i still feel like pouring LC into them is going to be a huge pain in the ass.

I've got a PE question for the crowd . . . Anyone ever try top-fruiting a PE variety from the jar? I have 4 jars going, 3 are at pace with each other, and the fourth is lagging by a few days. I'm skeptical of it and don't want to spawn it together with the other three, but I also don't want to completely toss it, as it's not visibly showing contam.
Whatcha think—top fruit in the jar with a coir casing layer on top of the colonized oats, or should I try to fruit it into a little tupperware . . . or just toss, and it's not worth my efforts?

It’s been done before. No reason to toss it if it’s good spawn just because it’s a couple days behind.

Just wait till they're all colonized and spawn to a tub if thats your goal. Even if theyre like a week behind I promise you the one thats finished still will be colonizing the innards of the grain. You can leave spawn literally until it starts fruiting no problem.

Been experiencing some seriously frustrating contamination the past 3 weeks or so... it is one of those periods where it feels like all my cultivation shit is fuckin up bad
I'm now getting contams in my pasty plates and have had a shitload of my tubs go green during first flush.....and all this happened at the exact time my ms RW culture I had been growing the heck out if decided to start reverting/acting weird and I began using these weird vinyl gloves for sterile work cuz I couldn't find regular nitrile.
I've still had enough successful tubs to get by thankfully but fuck dude this is stressful. I started a journal all about it if anyone feels like reading more about this BS

Wishing all you folks bountiful grows

Frustrating. With your skills I’m sure you’ll get it figured before long. What’s new beside the gloves? Do you think they might be the issue?

I haven't used gloves for anything in a minute. I just scrub my hands with soap and aqua before.

Thanks man, I appreciate that. not much different I can think of besides gloves, my technique hasn't changed a bit. EATs unbucket tek is new too but I've also had some killer success with it, not just failures.
These gloves have felt chalky but I haven't been able to see powder on em nor does it mention it on the pack. Doing my agar work tomorrow with a couple clean nitrile gloves I have laying around and seeing what happens
figuring this thing out little by little.
I've done no gloves too and it's better than these results I've been having tbh but I'd much prefer some nitrile again

Yea i try to save gloves for the real scientists battling disease, and the heathcare workers on the front lines.
The vinyl gloves im familiar with dont fit tight and are much more likely to carry shit than your fingers or nitrile

gloves are nice for keeping your skin from drying out too much. soap and iso take a toll IME. I re-use my gloves until they rip. been using these bio-degradable ones lately

Thankfully I have a few pins popping up for the second flush; hoping they grow into full blown mushrooms.
I don't want to waterlog my mushrooms again and I'm wondering one thing: I remember when my mushrooms were growing (right before harvest) the cakes were absorbing water like a sponge--see, I assumed this meant I had to water them to get the mushrooms to keep growing. Objectively speaking, they stopped "glistening with moisture" roughly every hour, and because of that I misted them way too often.
Do you guys mist your cakes more when mushrooms are beginning to drastically grow in size? If so, how exactly do you do such without waterlogging your mushrooms?

I used to always wear gloves in the lab and to spawn to bulk. But when covid first took its toll on gloves being available, I've been going bare back and I'll continue to.

I always liked the latex gloves, they just fit so much better than the nitrile gloves imo. I still have 1.5 boxes left and I bought them last year lol. The only thing I use them for is cleaning stuff using chemicals, mainly for protection.

I bought a two pack of latex gloves from Kroger for like 3 bucks. One pair for the SAB and one pair for mixing up substrate. Been working like a charm for me and re-useable AF.
Only complaint is that they can kind of stir up a little more air than i'd like in SAB but hasn't caused any problems so far.
