I like to run like 1.6 or 1.7% agar and like 2.3-2.5% nutes for spore germination.
Rick you don't have vert.
Maybe some pseudomonas. My guess is pigmented genes.

They sell lye for pretty cheap at basically every soap making supply place around. Lots of them online.
NaOH 99.9% is used by soap makers
I know. It would be entirely for shits and giggles. I only had the thought because i randomly learned that hardwood ash+water=lye

Vert moves super fast and peels fruits like a banana. He was prolly thinking of pseudomonas

I was about to do a new build and the main feature of my new design idea is it's multi-use ability, and that it takes up very little space.
This idea of just tenting shelves you already need and use and running a heat source in there is even less of a footprint as it doesn't require building something new that has to sit anywhere. It's already there, just use it, when your done, roll up the flaps and load your racks of colonizing master jars onto your shelves. Genius.
Is that essentially what my eyes are seeing there filthy?

I have a premix MEA. 25grams per 500 ml. Was going to experiment with some of the recipes in this forum. Just didn’t know which ones. I don’t know the % of agar in the MEA solution. One time I tried to use less premix and the agar came out watery. It’s from a trusted vendor here. My plate safe over a week with no growth. Bacterial or otherwise. Gave em another week and nada. This is over the course of 3 weeks and 3 different attempts. But transfers and in vitro pins seems to love the MEA.

The MEA comes out pretty stiff. I’ve even scraped the MEA with my loop to try and put a divot in it and still nothing. What about hot pouring agar over the MS syringe drop.

Just be careful, sometimes with cakes pieces of verm will get incorporated into the mushroom and then shred your intestines when you eat it.
Also some types of vert/pseudomonas are known to cause irregular heartbeat when consumed dry.

Aaaaahhhh
Good morning shroomism. I got some cordyceps militaris on the way and pink oyster. Also going to mess around with this x7x print from a brotha named R kell. And I’ll be swiping a pan something to agar today. Finally getting settled in to my new spot.

I use a innoc loop and I’ve done about 10 plates over a few days span and not one germinated. Is there a better agar prep when using ms syringe than MEA
For germinating spores and pretty much anything else I like to use 8g BRF to 8g agar for 450ml of water. Works great for me and I always get nice rhizo growth.

Thanks. How do u prepare the brf agar. If u don’t mind. Are u heartng and mixing then pressure cooking. Does the brf dissolve fully. I honestly never heard of this but sounds like it would be great. Thanks.

Yeah just mix brf and agar powder together and boil for a few minute till it's homogeneous. Brf agar can have some sediment. If that happens either filter or or leave it be. The sediment wont hurt. although I always PC a few minutes longer of I have sediment. Although no more than 5 minutes longer than normal

use BOD’s Comprehensive Agar Tek, add your dry ingredients to the bottle, then water, then shake it real good, put in microwave for three minutes and watch until boiling (make sure the lid is on really loose), then PC. It’s all in the Tek..

Thanks guys. I just don’t understand why my spore solution from MS won’t germinate on the MEA premix but transfers love it. Maybe I’m doing something wrong.

isnt grain water also considered superior to MEA/malt agar mixes
whenever i boil grains, i save the liquid for later.
you can even thin it out to get even more

I water bottomed one of my cakes as it had a huge pinset (and my other cake had a drying issue), but after 24 hours I saw no further pin growth, and overnight it absorbed 0 water, so I decided it'd be best to take away the water bottom and set it on a dry lid. Was this the right call?

MEA premix is generally firm AF. Lot of agar in those mixes per volume. If you don't have time or money for just some agar (not premixed) you can prepare yourself, use some brf paste to germ those tough-to-germ spores then transfer to your premixed. You can just cut the recipe back a bit too but they go pretty heavy on the agar in those mixes...

i thought mea agar was completely dead to accomplished growers except when working with extremely easy germination

Anytime I used mea the growth was super weak. Idk how people have success with it so I switched back to BRF. I’m sure it works for some, just not my go to. With BRF it’s always pretty cloudy, never bothered me none though.
