Canadian shroomerites
Does anyone here use home hardware beyond peat coir?
They removed the listing from the website and the few stores I checked don't have any. Looks like they may not be restocking it?
I found some dude on kijiji (it's like craigslist) selling 5kg blocks for $20 a piece, gets down to $10 if you buy 100. Obviously I gotta test a few bricks before jumping in too much but I am considering buying 1000kg of coir . Even amazon doesn't have eco earth right now
Home hardware seems to carry some other type of coir brick but I think it is smaller in size and it is out of stock right now in store and on website
Beyond peat is the best coir I ever used, if it's really gone I am gonna miss that stuff.

Have you tried online hydroponics shops? Don't know about Canada but at least here in my country there are a bunch of these online shops that sell 5kg bricks of coir for under 10 bucks and it's usually good quality too.

Yup, they have decent coir. It's expensive though, almost 10$ for a single 650-700gr brick.

Just "gave" one of my dad's old friends a quarter of ape. I said be careful and he told me "no"
He'll be fine, he's plenty experienced.
But then he told me him and a buddy just bought a kit... i told him they are a waste of money and if he did everything from scratch he would thank himself.
He shrugged off the advice saying his friend is the brains if the operation.
I sent him on his way telling him I've been at it for 6 years and to get ahold of me if he runs into problems.

I have found the 3 packs of eco earth at petsmart but they run around $10.99 to $11.99
I have been using 5kg blocks to make 8 tubs, 625 grams each tub. And they were $9.99, so I was essentially getting by with <$2 per mono in coir cost.
@josex
I checked a bunch of online hydro shops and they are all charging at least $15 for a 5kg brick, plus shipping cost. I am going to go check out a few of the local ones in person
With eco earth though I never ever get a 650 gram brick. Last 10 3 packs I weighed I got shorted on all of them by 50-200 grams coir each pack. Not a huge deal, and yeah even at $12 for a 3 pack it isn't that expensive, but it adds up. I am doing 20-30 tubs a cycle right now. trying to move up to 40

A similar thing happened to me. Parents friend said they used to grow but couldnt get a print. I said "really? Ill do you one better and give you an LC!" Turns out he hasnt grown since 1985 and didnt do well so hes like "wtf do I do?" this is what i get for not keeping my mouth shut. I thought Id hand him a syringe and be done with it.
Edit: maybe this belongs in the confessions thread

Hello people, Can I ask you something?
Is it safe to eat mushrooms that grow on the side of a monotub, starting like side pins and got bigger at the side of the tub, and ended up being very wet and slimy? No signs of blotch or anything, just the slimey wet stuff.. Also, The grains that i used had bacteria probably. Do I have to clean this slime before drying it?
Thanks

Honestly I think many people simply don’t have the inclination to do anything for themselves. Kits popularity will go up as people seem to be addicted to the feeling of successfully doing something, while doing absolutely nothing. I’m trying to not hate as much and instead try to help those people. But it can be hard.

I try not to teach unless i am asked to do so, they'll either figure it out or keep coming to me. Doesnt matter much to me.
Those who want knowledge will seek it. I try to leave it as simple as that. But my analytical mind gets ahead of me

I over-teach... anyone that shows any interest ill talk to for hours... lol. I get so excited to share everything I've learned and im usually balls deep in a bottle of whiskey... luckily I don't have many friends and the few that actually listen to my ramblings have become great cultivators in their own right. Share the knowledge! Spread the spores!
