I've ofternQuote:

Ive often wondered that. I don't use cakes, but im sure it just takes longer to colonize if you do that. I would try it if i did cakes

I'm personally not a fan of grating up cakes. I've seen people line the bottom of a mono with cakes and just cover it with coir.

I never understood using a grater, that seems like a lot of surface area to get clean

Ok y'all I've got 12 bottles to inoculate. Should I use AA+, PE, Columbian x GT, or Blue Magnolia?

I just did some searching, is it a joke or actually some PE variety?
I’m leaning towards joke.

No blue magnolia is a rust printer...because magnolias have brown fuzzy undersides on their leaves

So I’m trying to do this cold water mix agar right now just wondering are you wanting to let it dissolve before the cook. Also I do no pour containers. I have the agar on a stir plate right now

Agar wont dissolve in cold water. You need to boil it for a minute before bottling if you want it to dissolve. Some people just use cold water then pc it but I have found that at the end of my cycle I'll have a puck of undisolved agar in my bottle if I do it that way.
I use telephone and boil til it melts then mix in my nutes and bottle

I used cold water last night. The agar set up just fine and was as clear as it is when I boil and run it through cheese cloth before bottling it.
Tbh I've never really understood the notion that it needs to be boiled first before pc'ing because it's going to boil inside the pc as well, for a longer period of time and at a higher temp.

It helps homogenize your mix so all the plates are consistent

I don't understand why that can't be accomplished inside of the media bottle during the pc cycle. The plates I poured last night seemed to do just fine without a pre-pc boil.

I think it came from no-pours

It totally came from no pour. It’s way easier to deal with wrapping and placing a no pour if the agar in it is set.
