I like small boxes too sometimes, but for that a mini mono is my jam. I just can’t maintain surface conditions with dub style chambers, they dry out too fast here.

Hell yeah I get dry shoeboxes when the woodstove starts cranking up for the season. I'm know you're talking about something bigger like a 32qt or something but I love sweater boxes for smaller projects. Want to get some of those IRIS 19qt totes. I did the measurements and can fit stacks of 2 on my tall shelves thanks to their lower profile.

For 4 shoeboxes I am using 650g (measured, bricks are all over the place in actual weight with the ones i bought) + 650 * 4.2 grams (ml) of water. 2.73 liters of water. I am probably going to back this off to 4.1 or maybe even 4.0 the next time. I feel like the coir is still really wet at 4.2.
I do 1.5 quart of coir to 1 quart of spawn and mix. .5 quarts of coir as the top layer. I mist heavily.
I am not using any verm by default but i have thrown in a cup or two a few times when i felt like the sub was really really wet.

Since I am new I really expected to be losing tubs left and right to contam and felt like it would be easier on me if i lost a little bit at a time. I am going to reconfigure my grow closet to be able to do a few bigger tubs soon, though.

After petri dishes are consolidated do you store them in the fridge or just let them sit out till you're ready to use them?

I only ever do like 3 monos and a handful of shoeboxes max at a time, so it makes sense. My tubs are really easy to clean too. Id rather wash tubs than jars. Maybe ill start using liners when i get more space.
@pasty, what's the rh in your neck of the woods? Its pretty dry here too but i hardly ever get side pins in shoeboxes

You want to try to use your agar before it grows all the way to the edges so you can see what you’ve got. If you leave plates out eventually they will start fruiting. So basically use them up or store them in the fridge before they get fully colonized.
Mingot that does seem like a lot of water, at least compared to how I prep. I use the same amount of water basically (1 liter is 1.06qt) for 650g coir and 250-300g of verm.

Depends on the time of year but, in the winter when the furnace is running 24/7 and everything is frozen solid outside the humidity just plummets. Probably 10-15% most of the winter. Sometimes lower. I can take an ice cold beer out of the fridge and put that sucker right on a mahogany coffee table no coaster.

People who live in Florida, near the Great Lakes, most of the south, or in the PNW have no idea how lucky they are when it comes to dialing in fruiting conditions. Hell cron can fruit a tray on his kitchen table and have a canopy. If I did that it would be a crusty dry brick in 24 hours.

Thanks Roger Clemency. I'll stick them in the fridge for now. I don't like too much going on at one time

Yea it's far too dry here for open air fruiting. I'm in the most arid region of the pnw though.

What are people’s thoughts on this scope and using it without having a FH? I use a SAB but would love to view spores under a microscope. Once I can get my agar game down I plan to make slants of every variety I cultivate including edibles soon

I dont see any need for using sterile technique to view slides. I might make the slide in a sab, but once its made its not really neccesary to keep it in there

I should also ask, how do people take pictures of slides at such magnification

Just take a picture with high resolution camera or microscope with picture capability......you don't need to keep them sterile once they are sealed with parafilm or saran wrap. Seal them inside your SAB and take them out youll be fine. (This dozent apply to you) but Ive noticed alot on this forum, that people over complicate things thinking they are making it better/easyer or more sterile lmfao.
Alot of you need to keep the K.I.S.S acronym in mind...... keep! It! Simple! Stupid!
