Somebody fairly recently had problems with well water but then other people said it was fine.

Yeah I remember seeing that, I've never used anything but tap. I don't want to fuck around with something that may cause unnecessary problems. If I can slap an RO system on it and not have to worry then that's what I'll do.

Hard water seems to be ok, mine is so hard I know a guy who got kidney stones from drinking it a lot. Shit leaves mineral dust if you let it evaporate on the table lol.
There’s something else going on with some wells though.

Any thoughts on this as a replacement for a SAB? Someone posted it 4 years ago but I didn't see a reply saying specifically why it wouldn't work.

Some wells are high in coliform bacteria. Only certain types of coliform are dangerous, like e. coli, but not all coliform are dangerous and well testers dont test for any specific coliform except e. coli.
Instead they test for total coliform count, which can be high as long as there is no e. coli present. If it's too high, the water is deemed non potable, but the total coliform count would have to be pretty high.
Coliform bacteria can certainly affect a bulk sub if you didnt pasteurize. Once coliform colonizes the sub, it weakens mycelium growth allowing molds to take over.

So would an RO system with UV take care of potential bacterial issue like that? I would assume that the UV would kill any present bacteria.

You could probably boil the water first too.

An in line uv-c filter will definitely work just fine. Shit, if your well had e. coli it would be the recommended solution outside of digging a new one.
Not sure what well costs are in CA but here in colorado it's about $25 dollars a foot and the average well is 200ft.
I would recommend getting chemical analysis done too. Most well inspection/testing places only do micro testing for potability, but I'd get a chemical contaminate test done too, especially if you live in ag land

Just try your well water. Mine has never given me prroblems. There are other bacteria in some sources that are no good for you grow too, but i don't personally have a problem. If you can drink it, its not likely to cause a problem imo

Eh potability test is like 30 bucks and chemical analysis is 50 or so.
I'd pay 80 bucks to avoid a potential full day of explosive diarrhea

Ugh... so I ran 6 jars in the PC earlier and just realized that I never covered the lids with foil. They’re plastic lids with one centered 1/4” hole each, and a full SFD under the lid. Do y’all think I need to remake?
