Putting them in the pots(12.5 dry lbs in a presto lid sat on but bot turned close(no pressure) and bringing the water just to a boil and dumping them... have considered heating the water before adding the grain but not gotten that far yet... these last were undercooked going in, and some were burst post-cycle...  I'm fan drying the outsides until they're rattle dry externally... may need to put the temp on "8" instead of "10"... idk, but I've tossed nearly 3 50lb bags of oats in the last couple months wah lol... I'll nail it down again, just an adjustment period... this grain seems to hydrate extremely easily: may end up scaling up my prepless ratio to reflect 4qt finished bags and fold the bags to allow swelling lol...

Yea. I had issues with oats bursting when I heated the water with the oats in them. And I have issues with bacteria if I don't dry the shit out of the oats. But if those two things are worked out, the oats are fine.
I much prefer rye, but can't obtain it here. And the wheat has been filthy as hell lately, so oats it is.

Been seeing this a lot lately. I have done a lot of reading & trouble shooting of my SAB process already and now I’m wondering if it’s our water and that I am spraying contams into the box along with the soapy water. Lately we’ve been seeing some black crud build up on our faucet ends and in the toilets. I cleaned up a bunch yesterday in the bathroom and this morning I saw my latest pair of transfers starting to launch satellites, on day 2. That session, I felt pretty good about my process in the box and the changes I made to it. I remember a while back, some members had traced issues with their grows to their water, but that was affecting their sub. Anyway, I will try a dry box & distilled water next I guess, but anyone have any experience with this?

Also, any favorite SAB videos? It can’t hurt to keep trying to dial in my technique.

Try a dry sab run, you may never spray again... In either event, shouldn't be spraying the box with plates in it, and should always allow any vapors to settle for 2-3 minutes before loading it

SAB technique tips:
Slow concise movements, never placing any more of yourself or your instrument over donor or recieving plates/jars, than is necessary to get the transfer or drop made

Work with new/recieving media furthest, and "less sterile" equipment and cultures closest to you

Flame outside of the box

And yeah, I can't find rye or wheat here... WBF or oats ... or MILLET @$60/50#!

So you’re saying just use coco coir.  Coco is king. I live in Florida so humidity isn’t really an issue but we Floridians run our air conditioners all day everyday.  And the main objective of a good central air unit is to reduce humidity in your home.  I thought hpoo was king that’s why I went out and bought some dehydrated aged hpoo.

As for the that grow box.  I only misted once a day at night usually when I came home from work.  I would fan it after misting.  Probably 3-4 sprays.  Appreciate ur advice.  I put the lid on upside down.  Won’t look at it for a few days.  Just worried those side pins veil breaks and spores get everywhere.

Quick question.  When using hpoo. Do u case if right away or wait a few days for it to colonize then case it.  Or it doesn’t matter.  I did one shoebox 1:2 ratio brf to hpoo and another brf to coco bucket tek on the same day.  I did both on the 11th and the hpoo seems to be colonizing much faster.  Both were done with the same ratio 1:2. Spawn to sub and I cases both with less than a quarter inch.

Brf to coco/verm/gypsum. I only used a 1/4 cup of gypsum for a brick of coco

Brf to hpoo. Cases with sub mix from above

Does there seem to be too much humidity on the walls of hpoo shoe box.

I had a mazatepec grow going along side my others. It’s the one that contammed on me and I had to bury out side.  It looked similar to the other one on the last page

When I put it into fruiting the top turned grey on me.  So I burried it out back.

Alright guys I'm pretty upset at the moment.. I just inoculated a few more jars. It seems the torch I use is very good at sterilizing the needle, but it also somehow scorches just a bit of the plastic at the end of the needle. I might have accidentally torched it there for a split second as well.

So the end, purple part of the syringe is very slightly melted (just a little deformed), and now I'm thinking what if this plastic got into the syringe and into the jars. Like, if not melted plastic, what about some plastic fumes?

Would this mess with the mushrooms that grow, by imbedding them with plastic fumes or remnants? Pretty worried at the moment, don't want plastic fume mushrooms here..

Truthfully, I have had fucked up things happen to me and which is why I love mushrooms to begin with.. they helped me work through lots of trauma and whatnot, now i think through everything to make sure of things.

But this is besides the point, I have never grown mushrooms before and who am I to assess whether some microplastic fume or liquid can damage mushrooms, mycelium, or myself..

Plus it seems no matter how hard I try when I flame sterilize the needle it somehow catches the end of the plastic, I dont think I put it directly on the end of the plastic or needle, but it finds way anyways, so I wanted to make sure this was not an issue.

I’m having an issue that began recently where the edges of a lot of my plates are getting contamed. It’s strange because this is new, I use an SAB and before I would just ISO wash my hands and be very careful and didn’t have any problems for a long time but I started to use iso washed gloves after this happened but even with a clean SAB and iso washed gloves this happens the only other thing I can think to blame is the parafilm since it’s all around the edges that’s the only thing I can make sense of. What do you guys think? Any help would be appreciated.

I’d say probably 30-45% this happens and it’s the whole plate on the outer rim.

The word fagtarded is pretty stupid I must say.

I really do not see how it seems if I am trolling.. what is unserious about my question? Burning plastic in the spawn? How is that stupid, seriously

Some mushrooms can actually eat plastic under specific conditions.

So I use a regular electric stove 4 burner type shit. Well the front big burner is messed up now from PC use. Do I need to replace the burner & the socket wired up that the burner prongs slide in?

Yeah but man you made like three threads about it yesterday. If you’re tripping that hard over flaming a needle you’ll never make it through a grow.

Celestial I’ve had plates look just like that and it made me wonder if the plates were cracked or contam got in when I opened to pour. It looks like bacteria underneath the puck.

In any case I can’t wait until it cools off in a month or two, I had no idea how much warm whether upped contams.
