"Check the jars"

You are checking the jars.

some jars stall, and then you forget that they are stalling, and then when you check them again, you're like: this is stalling

Then you forget about it

Come back

Check the jars

"This is stalling"

"I should throw this away"

i bought a few bags of wheat, and they are coated in something pink...
i just found out they were treated with thiram, will i have any issue proceeding as usual with prep, and sterilization to use these for grain spawn?

Sounds like you got wheat for planting and not feed. The online says thiram is a fungicide so it probably isnt good.

Is it something you can rinse off easily?

The pink is a fungacide , , if you rinse it off youll get most of it but itll still be there, will probably hinder your culture regardless. That shits poison , shouldnt even touch that shit without gloves id plant it or toss it n get new shit, you want wheat for feed not planting, even if you manage to grow something on it id be very weary of eating anything that comes from it.
fungacides are no joke the usual MOA is an enzyme inhibitor and that shit can cause some serious issues

Re: Cultivation General Discussion [Re: Inocuole]
    #26871245 - 08/09/20 09:27 AM (3 years, 5 months ago)

Just wanted to share my journey of becoming a mushroom cultivator:

- Started out with a PF Tek kit with 12 jars. inoculated directly with MSS, lost 5 of 12 jars to contamination, got a decent amount of fruits which sent me on a few journeys
- Started reading up grains and bulk growing. Ordered sterilized bags of grain and bulk substrate, again went with MSS directly to grain - list everything to contamination
- Tried again with grain spawn to attempt bulk grow but again lost everything to contamination
- At this point I really start to read up and educate myself. Decided to first of all take control of the whole process myself including sterilization. Decide to go back to PF tek as this was the only thing I've had success with. Also start to read up on agar and LC's. Got some more jars and inoculated 18 jars with LC made using agar. 100% success rate. Had limitations on fruiting chambers, but started out with 12 cakes I put into fruiting - yielded about 700g wet weight
- Decided to go with bulk growing for the remaining 6 jars using an unmodified tub. Today I harvested the first flush which ended up being 600g wet weight. Can't explain how happy I am that I seem to have got a hang of this now

I don't use any fancy equipment tbh:
- Instant pot for sterilization
- Ketchup cups for all agar work, never sterilize the cups myself, just use straight out of the packaging. Oven with door slightly open for any agar pours. Never had any bacteria issues as a result of the agar
- No SAB, just do everything in the bathroom
- Making sure that environment I'm working is clean and sterilized properly

Attaching pictures of the bulk grow and harvest. Was not around to pick the fruits earlier, that's the reason for the spores everywhere

Got so much of it now that I guess I'm set for a while. Next project will be APE that I already have grown out some mycelium on agar. Going to try innoculating some popcorn and then to bulk.

Yeah doing open air stuff will catch up to you. A SAB is a home cultivators #1 tool if you don’t have a flow hood.

But congrats on stepping up your game and pushing forward to mush  :saulgoodman:

Do fungicide treated grains always have the dye/coloring? I bought seed wheat recently instead of feed wheat and it looks normal, but I can't refer to the bags because I threw them away after transferring the wheat to sealed containers.

I’d assume most grains are treated with fungicide/pesticide or bacteria. Just an assumption though, I figure most farmers don’t want their crop full of bugs and mold.

I’m hoping to get some assistance here since my grown has seemed to stall.  I did brf to bulk and everything was going well while colonizing.  I decided to dub tub the mini monos and put them into fruiting and nothing has happened in over a week.

The bulk used was coir bucket tek.

This last tub came from a all in one and I used ms to inject it.  I just put this into fruiting 2days ago and wanted to know if dub tubbing it will be sufficient for Fae.  It’s a 12qt mini

I’m hoping I’m in the right section here.  Ty

They all look really dry except the last one. Once it hits full colonization you won’t see much change besides knots forming for a while. They look alright and should pin soon. I bet if you gave them a light misting they’ll blow up.

Don’t mist directly though, spray across or angled up so it rains down onto them.

The first one looks like it’ll have pins by tonight anyway judging by the big knots.

That’s the thing. I’ve been misting on and off for a week but I’m losing hope.  Do u think adding water to the ones that shrunk off the sides quite a bit would help.  Like adding a 1/4 cup of water, let soak and then drain excess off in 12hrs.  Or is that overkill.

Ty

On another note.  I’m giving agar a try tonight.  My first time doing it. Pretty excited.  I bought MEA from a vendor and it calls for 25grams per 500ml.  After reading some recipes on here I was wondering if I should use a little less per 500ml.  Like 20grams.

When I fill the pressure cooker do I want the water level to match the agar level in the media bottles?  Ty

I’ve been running a side by side by side with Pasty’s 66 qt and Bods 54 qt and my 30 qt tubs ..
Right now per/sq/ft the and sub/spawn ratios the 30 qt is right in front of the 54qt tub and 66qt is one flush behind .. the 30 is on flush 4 and still rocking out them out ..

The 54 is the top photo and that’s the 3rd flush

The middle is the 30 and flush 3

Bottom Is the 66 and second flush..

I’ll modify the 66 like Pasty has on his tek .. to make a fair run at it the next go round ..

I would give your tubs two light mistings a day. I agree they look very dry, but DON'T soak them. Evaporation is the pinning trigger, hence two light mistings. Soaking it may stall your progress. Also, it's only been a week! Give it time. I usually figure 3 weeks from spawning (putting into tubs) until harvest.

About agar, yes fill the PC until the water is about the same level, this allows the agar to cool slowly when you shut the heat off, preventing boil over. The most common recipe is 10g agar, 10g nutrients (MEA), 500mL water. That one is really good for starting from spores, I like using 7.5g/7.5g/500mL for transfers after the original plate.
