I find it’s cleaner, has less woody debris, no seeds, better shred on the pith. Half the time eco earth has seeds and I get sprouts with it. That shit is a major contam vector IMO. I would pay the extra for the exo terra.

Seems to be my only option for substrate currently. Anything to be weary about? Mold, pasteurization, hydration?
Careful, this is all I used for a long time, loved it. However, last time I ordered it I got this.

It's not the same. It's just fiber. I mixed it into some other coir and it worked okay, but I'll never get it again. Went around to local pet stores, all they had was the crappy stuff with the red frog on it.
Now I go to the hydroponic store for coir.

Hydrocrunch 11lb bricks are my jam.
Super clean and consistent. And cheap.

I usually bought the eco earth triple brick packs from Petco or Petsmart. Worked great for my needs.

They were sold out for a while but I got stocked up so I’ll share lol.
https://www.amazon.com/Hydro-Crunch-CB801-11-lbs-Soiless/dp/B07FB8ZPG7
I’ve only tried this, eco earth, and some third random brand but this is by far my favorite.

Looks good and all but how do you get the amount you want per serving? Do you cut it, chisel it, weigh it, what do you do?

Yup, here it comes... and
I multiply whatever amount of coir I want like this; 1) 400g Coir x 2 mL/g= 800 mL hot water 140-160 F. Disclaimer: your coir will take a different amount of water for Field Capacity
TedsDead said: Well, the thermal death temp for cubes is 104F... i usually wait until the coir is 85F

I have a big hunting knife I poke in the top and pull towards me and it peels off in layers. You could weigh it but I never do. I’m pretty good now at eyeballing it but if I have some left over i just leave it in the bucket until I make more.

Seems like a pain to me when eco earth already comes in the proper servings. Guess it works for some people though. May be a better deal in the long run.

You still have to break it up. Today I prepared 400g because that's how much I want...for my casing layer.

Eco earth has gotten shittier over time and now it holds less water than it used to.
I used to do 4qt water per brick, now I'd be lucky if it holds 2.5qt with a qt of verm added.
Now I use roots organic 5kg bricks from a local hydro store. 8 bucks a brick and it makes 8-10 tubs for me so it's much cheaper than when I was paying 60 bucks for 24 bricks bulk from eco earth.
Also, fuck breaking the 5kg bricks up. I nust toss a whole block into my cooler with verm and dump in my water. Preps 8-10 tubs at a time no problem no hassle

It's amazing how the hydro stores a lot of times can beat online pricing.. my local hydro store (hydro-pros) has amazing prices.. but the pricks refuse to wear masks.. so fuck em..

Ya thats nuts. I'm also in colorado not sure if hydro stores are cheaper here since hydro growing is less taboo.
Roots organic is the brand you may find them online for cheap

Yeah they’re probably buying pallets of coir.
We should start a shroomery group to pitch in for a wholesale coir buy
