What do you mean? I sterilize my cvg all the time. It doesn't matter with cvg. I'm pretty sure sterilized is better since it cooks it more making it more easily consumed by myc

Mad Season said: I'm like 99% sure I've read they set the gauges of the PC to sea level.. 14.7 psi. So assuming you live in an area with 12 psi atmospheric pressure, your gauge will read 0 until the internal pressure has raised to 2.7 psi (overall pressure of 14.7 psi)
This would explain why people at higher altitudes have pressure capping at 12-14 psi, because internally the PC is actually at 15 psi, but the overall pressure is still 3-1 psi lower than 15 psi at sea level (what the gauge was calibrated to)
This means that the people raising the gauges up to 15+ psi with weight added to the rocker are actually already doing what the chart posted by enlightenment is saying.
I don't have a unit with a gauge. I just have a 15 psi weight. I know it's at 15 the first time it blows so it's still 15 inside my unit no matter what because that's just a simple physics methods of measuring the pressure anywhere in the world it wouldn't matter in that case.
But I'm just saying that I can't add weight or haven't figured out a good enough way to add it and keep the rocker symmetrically weighed so it still functions correctly. So if it takes 19 psi to properly sterilize something at my altitude at 90 mins, I'm just gonna run 15 for 2 hours then
In your case, yes make sure you increase the times.
I was more or less talking to everyone who says the gauges are inaccurate considering the weight seems to constantly jiggle under the advertised 15 psi. They're actually very accurate and precise at measuring pressure in terms of sea level. Since most seem to be at a higher altitude, the gauges calibrated to sea level will have the weight jiggle at a lower pressure than 15.
Also yeah CVG can be sterilized, pasteurized, bucketed or just hydrated and thrown on. People report quicker colonization with sterilized CVG as well

I'm 5 meters below sea level and the weight rocks when the gauge says 14 psi. I just assume that whenever the weight is rocking I'm actually reaching 15 psi.

Everything my strains/cultures touch gets sterilized first... including CVG ... I have minimal contamination issues.

Lol perhaps very precise was off xD but off by 1 psi is still decent. It's cool because you should theoretically tell what your current altitudes pressure is compared to sea level by using a PCs gauge and an accurate weight. All in your kitchen

Idk I feel like I just make it sound like a PITA
I like doing 3 bricks at a time in a beer cooler. 14-15 qts boiling water, 9 qts of verm. Shiiit, fills it right to the top. Idk how many PC cycles that would be but if I had to PC 3 bricks :shootme:

I don't pc my cvg either. But I do dump boiling water on it. I'm talking a full rolling boil. Dump it in a bucket, put the lid on and let it sit till it cools down with interval shaking and stirring of the bucket.
That shit for sure gets sterilized

Ya I know. But bucket tek is definitely still sterilizing your cvg if you use boiling hot water.
I know some people wait till there bucket tek water reaches 180 or so like in mudas(?) revised bucket tek but boiling water works just as well.

I bring that shit to a rolling boil why not? I wouldn't say it fully sterilizes though. Cause have you ever taken a meat thermometer to your bucket after you're done getting it all mixed in? It reads about 160-170 in the middle, maybe 180 if you're quick. I feel like some shit can slip through the cracks at that temp which is more than pasteurization but less than full boiling.

I don't know why anyone would use less hot water, you'd have to ask muda or whoever wrote the revised bucket tek I guess back then they just assumed sterilized coir was still susceptible to contams.
I have used a thermometer and I just use the lowes blue buckets and lid. Mine remain around 175-190 or so for a good hour at least. I would say that is pretty sufficiently sterilized, as far as our purposes are concerned.
I have also sterilized bags of cvg in the PC. I see no real difference between boiling hot water bucket tek and PC sterilization.
Bucket for the win though!!

I thought Muda grew almost exclusively in PP5 Jars ... everything mixed in a bucket but then PC'd before inoculation.
