Can someone explain how I can prevent this spider web mold contamination? It's the third jar already....
I'm getting frustrated

Sterilize completely and use clean inoculant and technique.

Yea pretty much only way to get cobweb mold is not sterilizing the jars good enough or having a bad lid filter setup.

My first flush of my first ever grow is coming in. Not pictured is another flush of ~70g wet, and I've got 2 more boxes finishing up one which I think will be similar to the 2nd 230g harvest pictured. Thanks for all the info and posts over the years, I've read shroomery extensively to get these!

Alright thank you very much.
Can I do something about the remaining jars? Can I cook them? There is still no mycelium shown.
It's my first try without those growing kits.
@Garvaeldt Looks amazing!

I'm so paranoid about contamination now that I'm seeing possibilities everywhere. I'm starting to notice these cloudy specs in my plates that have me worried about bacteria, they don't look like classic bacteria but why else would I have cloudy white spots between the bottom of my plate and the agar?
I poured 2 sleeves the other night, most if not all have some questionable cloudy spots, fuck it I'm tossing them.

I have had spots like that turn out to be bacteria. Takes a minute though they seem to be way slower inside the agar.

I can't risk it, my plates always come out clear so I'm not sure what happened. I'm not fucking around with the wait just to find out my subs have become contaminated.

Hoping these just look like more or less normal spore germination plates. Probably gonna give it another couple days to grow out before I transfer-- the other plates from the same batch are clean, each set of plates with growth has growth on both plates (some not pictured here due to condensation). All the growth looks relatively similar, and there's no satellites, only growth originating from where I put the spores.
Fingers crossed.

Thanks, that's what I thought- it's a lot less faint/more white in person. Getting a second opinion in this hobby is always good, especially when I've been out of it for so long.
Probably gonna do some transfer work tonight-- gonna try to get 6 transfers (3 transfers to each of the new plates) from each plate.

I have a 3d printer. I don't have plastic that's PCable.
Actually, after some research, it looks like PLA *is* PCable- it might deform slightly but it won't *melt* melt. I'll do some experimenting tonight, see if I can make agar tools out of plastic, PC them, and use them-- seems easier to me to have a lot of reusable tools that just need to be PCed than to flame tools every time... Maybe jar lids too.

I didn't have a lid for this tub and a grocery bag wouldn't fit around it so I just draped so I poked some holes in a drop cloth I use for liners. It seems to be working good tons of knots and pins and I haven't needed to mist it since it started like a week ago not sure if I should poke some more holes in it, all my other tubs and shoe boxes need misting somewhat frequently.

Perhaps a mod can answer this one. So I'm aware that it's against the shroomery rules to share or trade live active cultures, what about within countries where live cultures are legal like Canada?

Live active culture isn’t legal in Canada. I don’t know how that myth got started. Only places it’s not illegal is like Portugal, Spain, Jamaica The Netherlands and Somalia.

I see, I'm not even entirely sure where I got that from at this point. Perhaps the open sale of kits contribute. I was almost certain that I read that the spores and mycelium were legal but the fruit body was not, I can't seem to find that source however.

Regarding unmodified jar lids, this is written right in the tek:
Quote:
Pastywhyte said: I want to say that for the most part, this method is really just a stopgap. Like you just picked up a dozen jars and lids but now got no SFD kicking around and don't feel like charging the drill battery. So ya get busy any way and make em proper when your order of SFD's arrive. I am by no means endorsing this over proper filtered lids.

I think that was the original post but he edited it later saying they worked well and he was using them regularly.
I actually just got a notification my lids got delivered, never used them before hope they work for me.
