First flush of golden teachers from a growkit. I noticed a little blue spot on the top of the sub, could it be contamination or just mycelium bruising? Also, are my shrooms looking ok? They seem to be growing nicely but are very stubby and short and some of them have funny shapes, growing sideways etc...

Looks like bruising.

I rinsed my producers pride oats before boiling and they were definitely less sticky than usual when I put em on the screen to dry. I’ve heard some people rinse after the boil too but I didn’t have time last night to test.

Bags and Jars of grain spawn have different sterilization time requirements. Bags can need 3 to 4 hours. Jars only 1.5 to 2 hours.
what im really asking is does 2 -2hours sterilisation sessions count as 4 hours or does it need to be continuous?
It must be continuous.

Red chanterelles, Cantharellus cinnabarinus (or maybe the similar C. texensis).
Next time post wild mushroom pics in the hunting and ID forum. https://www.shroomery.org/forums/postlist.php/Board/3

The bran doesn't cause your wheat to stick and clump?
I haven't had any trouble with it. I'll get a few clumps here and there, but nothing terrible.

Hey guys-- can I get some experienced opinions on this jar-- I'm assuming it's a fail like all my other ones.

I had to wait a couple weeks after PC'ing it to get a chance to nock it up with an agar wedge. The seed seems pretty dry, (well, really dry I think). It'll be 3 weeks tomorrow since I dropped the wedge. The mycelium coming off the wedge was quite thick and healthy, but VERY slow to creep out. I shook it about 5 days ago.
Too dry? Infected?

I was expecting these Mazatapec fruits to get bigger, but veils are tearing now at about 3” tall. They look ripe and ready to harvest?

Any recommendations for a pressure cooker for bulk sterilization? Looking to buy one soon to run a few hundred jars through.

Hard to say from pic. Doesn't look good on this end. In the future, start over instead of using weeks old sterilized grain. Our process doesn't kill everything, but rather kills enough to give us a running start.

Yes, a good 60 to 70 percent are ready to pick. Beautiful fruits.

All my Maz have been about the same... never more than 2.5-3 in tall... they are rather potent tho... not PE powerful but stronger than some of the other cubes I've grown...

Cool, thanks for the confirmation y’all. Much appreciated!
BTW, caught a pretty decent documentary called “Fantastic Fungi” last night. Here’s the trailer if you’re at all interested:

I found fantastic fungi to be nearly equivalent to watching Paul Stamets get a hand job for an hour and a half.
I like this one though, check it out:

All American 75x, or use an atmospheric sterilizer for commercial volume, unless of course you have 20k for a commercial autoclave ; )
